I don’t think so. The 12/NAPS/160 was quite a bit earlier. You can see all this in the product history on the website.

You might be right there HH

I think my first one was was a 12S/snaps/160

@Richard.Dane - Richard what was the difference between naps and snaps and could the naps run the 12s?

Thanks

The NAPS was a fairly basic little PSU that could power the NAC12, and later the NAC32, with the early NAP160 and the NAP250 (Once the NAC12 arrived the NAP160 was modified so it essentially had a NAPS PS inside for powering the pre-amp directly from the power amp).

The SNAPS arrived in '78 and replaced the NAPS. It was a much higher quality supply and came in a much larger case - a bolt-down shoe-box style case, similar in dimensions to the NAC12. It had a large 130VA transformer and a pair of selected 317T regulators giving two 24V DC supplies, so you could power both a pre-amp and a NAXO crossover from a single unit.

Your mate’s view may be extreme, but the DV MCs and phono stage are excellent. More contentiously, a Naim dealer who also sold Shahinians reckoned that 135s would power Hawks pretty well, but for Diapasons there was nothing better than that big Dynavector power amp.

@Mike_S

The Dynavector manufacturer here in Sydney is a kiwi Mike from way back

We often refer to him as the hobbit in the forest :grinning:

Yes well the DV guy here is the distributor for shaninian speakers also and my mate has the arcs and I must say it all goes hand in hand with the dv preamp/amp and sounds rather marvellous :+1:

I thought that each Dire Straits album was worse than the one that preceded it.

Was it Mark Knopfler or Eric Clapton who produced the magnificently moody guitar-led soundtrack to that spooky six-part series ‘Edge of Darkness’?

Clapton.

Knopfler did Local Hero, amongst others.

It was Clapton great series , great soundtrack.

You thought it would propel Bob Peck to serious heights but he passed away (if I remember rightly) shortly afterwards

We are getting off/topic, so my apologies, but FWIW I agree about their relative merits. However, I thought the first album absolutely excellent - describing an LP as less good than that is ‘praising with faint damns’ if you see what I mean.

They can’t even spell Michael’s surname correctly.

That’s great Richard, I had a vague idea about it but didn’t know the detail. I have no intention of separating or changing any of it, as I see it as part of Naim history so its staying as it is!

are those old lavender din-rca cables still for sale?

Should be. Speak with your Naim dealer. They should be able to order in if they don’t have in stock.

What are we looking at here, I can recognise a Gorb and the arm says Funk on it but is that headshell and all the bit down to the cartridge standard?

Funk Firm Houdini at least, and looks like a Cobra headshell to keep the VTA sensible?
