Well Tempered Versalex / DV XV1s / Pure Audio Vinyl. Had this combo for 5 years.
I think your daughter is very lucky to have such a deck and a dad who gave it to her
Those decks are much nicer looking than the current Rega skeletons , and ( a personal opinion here) turntables should also be about pride of ownership
And there are real objects of desire on this thread and the competing Show Us Yer Sondek
What turntable is it?
Gyrodec SE with Nima arm, Roksan HD arm cable and Dynavector DV20xl2. There is also an HR power supply and Dynavector P75 mk4.
They used to tell me at my local dealership that a unipivot was a very good match for the Michell decks, Frank had an Aro on his Orb and it even had Simon’s grudging approval (a long term Linn fan but now Veraslex owner). The Gyro has always been the looker. Are you using Dr T mode on the p75?
…I was wondering, too, how people find the Phono Enhancer mode. My thoughts were that it has an initial ‘wow’ sound…but after a while, to me anyway, it did not sound ‘right’. It sounded ‘digital’…and noisy. When I restored ‘normal’ mode, vinyl in it’s glory was restored. As usual, my feelings only. P10 Apheta 3 P75 IV KK Solos Akubariks
I bought the Gyro several years ago (ex dem) with a Rega 700 arm. After a while I found this combination too cold and clinical sounding. By this time I had moved to a Naim dealer (and system) who suggested the Nima. It needs to be set up carefully and the HD cable is very worthwhile, especially for bass performance. The sound now is much more musical and foot tapping. I use the P75 in PE/Dr T mode and find this works best for me. I have only used Dynavector cartridges with the P75 though and I guess they are what the PE mode was designed for.
…that makes absolute sense…previously I had aP9 RB1000 DV XX2 II ang with these I preferred the good doctor!
This arrived today, and wow it’s good. A massive step up from the Planar 1 plus. I love its stealthy looks too.
Blimey Nigel!!
Good stuff.
Best, C.
Oooh, very nice Nigel! Is that an Ania I spy as well? What’s the phono stage?
I thought you were just tinkering the the black stuff Nigel?
I’ve got a Fono MC, connected to the 272 with Couple 2 leads. Now I’ve just got to work out where to put the Fono, as it’s hanging off the arm leads at the moment! I’m thinking of putting some nails in the wall and suspending it from them with thin cord.
It’s a Technics 1210 Mk2 that’s had the pitch slider and strobe removed.
The arm is a fully modified Audio Origami RB300 it’s been rewired from tags to phono plugs the arms been foam filled and chrome plated and it also has a tungsten counterweight.
The cartridge is an Audio Technica AT 150 EA.
Yeah thanks. I do remind her on a regular basis how lucky she is! I’m happy that she enjoys the pleasure that vinyl brings. The whole theatre of taking it out of the sleeve, having to change sides after 20 mins, and having sleeve notes. Plus of course the sound. The Rega 25 must be their least sold deck. Maybe beaten only by the P9 due to cost.
Suspect it was the right product at the wrong time, I saw a P9 on ebay for £2000 a few minutes ago.
She’s definitely a lucky girl
It’s too expensive. The P9 has around 16 years now. For that price you can buy a new rega P8 , which will outperform very easily vs P9.
I had the P9, the Rp10, the Rp8, and soon the P10.
Ah, but the aesthetics of the P9 are far better (IMHO) .
Anyway I am pleased for Rega that they are still selling shedloads of turntables .
Hope you enjoy the P10 and looking forward to it gracing this thread
Best wishes
I prefer the P9 aesthetics too. But the sound first.
In general, all Rega turntables look like toys. Even the P9 looks cheap with the wood not nicely finished. You can see the nails outside the wood.
But the sound is so addictive !
