Another Rega P8 with RB2000 arm Ortofon 2M Black played through my Nait 50 phono stage. Alarmingly good.
What arm you got on the Orbe?
Love the lamp ![]()
Mind it shows up how ‘mucky’ even a new record is out of the sleeve!
Funk FX3 with Houdini, works really well.
It looks like it may be an Audiomods of some kind.
Has anyone sampled a Planar 3 RS yet?
Not brave enough to buy the one that comes in Kraft cheese slice yellow then?
These were probably amazing if you lived in a tiny Japanese apartment in the bubble period or a tiny bedroom. I’ve seen some pics of the original Sound Burger bring musical joy to some depressingly cramped quarters.
Ah, that was the most recent one, this is one of the ‘original’ 40th/60th anniversary specials brought out a few years back and which sold out globally in days. Only came in red!
As noted, they sound way better than you would think, particularly through the Nait 50.
Just not as good as would be ideal however, so unpacking it has also prompted me to somehow accommodate a grown up TT into my study…
Upgrade from Lyra Kleos to Lyra Etna Lambda for the Nottingham Dais / Anna 10 inch arm.
This is a cartridge with so much silence, dynamic, beautiful full and tight bass, etcetera. As if everything sounds much easier and it fits perfectly in my naim system. Perfect combination with the Nottingham Dais.
Rest of equipment now up for sale?
Are you satisfied with the sound of the Ortofon Bronze?
Short answer - yes.
Longer answer - yes. I use a MM cartridge during the winter because the central heating thermostats introduce a quiet but noticeable “pop” when using MC. I have fitted snubbers to the relay contacts, which helped, but didn’t do enough.
As for prefering the 2M Bronze over other MMs, I do cartridge swaps occasionally. I also like the AT150Sa and the Shure V15 type iv, but genuine styli are virtually impossible to find these days.
The AT and Shure both have slightly elevated bass and treble. That’s just their respective house sounds. The Ortofon has a flatter response. It tends to minimise background noise too, in my experience.
Well the Rega will replace the Soundburger’s brief tenancy but I won’t sell it. However, yes, there will be some Naim boxes in the market when I get round to it!
