I agree in general, but not always. Would you say : “ in my opinion the Porsche 911 turbo s is better vs Fiat 500? “. Personally “ in my opinion “ is no need to write in that case.
Same for stuff with very big price difference.
But it’s not a reason to prefer a Clearaudio Statement vs Rega P3. One can prefer the P3, even if the Clearaudio is obviously better. It’s better from a technical point of view and Hifi criterias point of view. However the P3 can be found more musical.
The same for the lp12 case. Of course it’s not the best in the world, despite some claim that. But it can easily be the favorite, in the musical way of appreciating.
…agreed…and that is why we should all be careful to express our preferences as just that…our own opinions. I think that we are all agreeing on this fundamental principle…it might be that we diverge on the value of measurements. For me, something can measure well but sound poor, and vice versa.
I didn’t mean any offense and I’m sorry that it came that way to you. Quite the contrary, I basically stated that you’re perfectly entitled to your opinion and I have no business arguing with you about it.
We all have different ears and the wiring between them is unique to each of us, so each of us hears differently and has a different set of priorities when picking a hifi set (or music for that matter). If you’re enjoying your music, that’s all that matters - the rest is just ‘noise’ (pardon the pun).
There has been a lot of talk here and the last picture was posted more than 2 days ago…so for the sake of the thread and to solve a mistaken post I placed in another thread… here Is another view ‘over’ my turntable…
Yess Tony it’s right, this is the 3LP (2,5 really…) special edition on coloured vinyl… nice edition but not really handy… triple folder on stiff cardboard. Always on the brink to damage it
A very nice record and a good sound too.
So. A while back, ‘someone’ in the house, or a friend of someone in the house, who wasn’t sure what they were doing, turned the arm weight to the stop and played a number of records like that. This meant there was so much weight on the front end that the bottom of the cartridge was scraping along the record!
On discovery (when taking these pics), I reset the weight but ever since then, SQ has not been up where it was, with things sounding very much more compressed than they should. I assume the cartridge has been damaged as a result and wonder if it can be serviced/repaired or if I will need to front up for a new one? It is 20 years old but sounded absolutely fine to me prior to the ‘incident’…
It’s a Benz cartridge within a T+A designed shell for the SME arm.
T+A offers support and service for some of their products. Maybe you ask them directly? Furthermore you might ask Benz directly, but any other qualified cartridge rebuilder will work either.
