Hmm, I think I’ve seen those. A bit like a cheese dome, right? Apart from the WAF of those, I see an issue with space, not only do you need space to put your sleeve and inserts, you need to put that somewhere as well. A lid is quite practical IMO. Not familiar with the Rega lid.
Are there people not bothering with any kind of lid?
I do like the elegance of the Michel unicover posted above, although I guess it suffers from the same space issue.
Goldring Lenco GL75P.
It was my father’s - he purchased it new in July 1973. Turntable £38.95, cover £3.64, cartridge (Shure M75CJ?) £8.30 - I have the invoice in front of me. It had a period of being unreliable so dad got fed-up and bought a new Rega Planar 3/RP3? about 3 years ago. Since then I had it serviced/repaired and I am enjoying it.
Yes, I have a custom made covers for both turntable and Audio Desk cleaner. I don’t see the big deal about dust. It’s easy enough to clean off and doesn’t bother the turntable.
Thanks for the “likes”. I can say my journey has been over many years including 202/200, 282/250, 252/300, but three specific highlights stick in my mind:
upgrade from Gyrodec to Orbe, there is no comparison!
upgrade from stageline to superline (I still think the superline is one of Naim’s best products!)
upgrade from 300 to 300DR (I know it seems strange but this was the final piece of the jigsaw for me, and such a big difference!)
I have recently changed my speakers from Audiovector si3 Signature to Audiovector R3 Arrete and I guess this has moved the system to a completely different jigsaw, but the 3 upgrades, above, are the ones that really stick in my mind ,
I recall, a GL75 was my fathers first ‘HiFi’ turntable. At the time, (I was a kid) I preferred the more modern look of the Thorens TD’s, but the solid engineering of the Goldring was amazing. I remember it was set up on our side board at the time and would jump at the slightest movement near by, as I said I was a kid so perhaps it wasn’t quite that slight! mounting on a sturdy shelf on an external wall solved that.
The cost of stuff is an interesting point, silly cheap by todays standards, but at £200 for a complete record playing system, TT/Amp&Speakers, that was a fair wedge for an average bloke to part with in its day.
