Shower pump woes

Just checked and there’s no inline or gauze filters so I’m guessing although the motor still runs the impeller on the hot side is knackered or a seal has perished, no sign of any lime deposits either.

Best thing, well one of, we did in our house was install a softener. Best 500 I’ve ever spent. We had some small plumbing jobs done last year and the plumber could not believe the condition of the whole system .

I second a water softener…the bigger the better
Mine takes a 25kg bag of salt …and cost about £1200 ten years ago
It saves it’s weight in salt on detergent and soap …plus less cleaning of showers and sinks etc
And of course… lovely soft water for baths and showing every day
Plus less wear and tear on boilers and heating costs

If installing a water softener try and ensure that there is at least one cold tap (in the kitchen) that has water direct from the rising main (ie not softened water). Even better to ensure that the cold taps in the bathrooms are also fed from the rising main.

After installing a water softener it will remove the build up of chalk in the tanks and pipes and hot taps.
