SMB protocol

Does the NS01 support the SMB protocol?

I am trying to access it from my Bluesound Node 2i player but am not making progress.

Yes, but only SMB1.

And it is worth remembering that SMB1 has the weakest security out of the SMB versions and is normally switched off in most operating systems for that reason.

You would need to set the server where the music sits to accept SMB1.

If you have a Synology NAS, Control Panel → File Services → SMB Settings → Advanced Settings.

In this case the server is a Naim NS01, which doesn’t give you those options.

It sounds like you need to check if the Bluesound node can accept SMB1, which may be the issue.

Is the upshot that I cannot access the music on the NS01 with my Node 2i?

Bluesound support SMB2.1 and later. As the NS01 only supports SMB1, I am afraid you are right that your Bluesound Node can’t access the files in your Naim NS01.

I am right now having a Blusound Node130 with the same issue. It won’t find my UnitiServe (nor any other network player). So if anyone has any idea, highly appreciated.

The Unitiserve, like all Naim servers, are primarily intended to be UPnP servers, so accessing them as an SMB share as Bluesound do, which is not how most streamers operate, is something you can’t easily resolve.
Given that you should have a backup or two of the US music folder, you could give the Node access to that on a NAS or computer.

Naa, that won’t be worth the hazzle. I’l wait for my ND5XS2 to come in, which hopefully can find its brand mate.

I don’t know why Bluesound don’t support UPnP, but yes, if you’re going to buy a streamer it should just find the US. No configuration required.

Had a similar issue with my HDX. Ended up just trading it in for an NDX2.
