Solution to replace Ethernet over Power

I’m currently using EoP to provide my hard wired connection. The house has some unterminated cat5e cabling in the utility room. I plan to terminate these with RJ45 connectors and add an 8 way unmanaged switch to provide ethernet throughout the house. The wall sockets are in place. The problem I have is that the socket in the listening room (Lounge) is nowhere near where I want to place the streamer.

To the network experts , can you suggest the best method to wire the streamer and the TV box (Sky Stream), without using EoP.

Secondly in rooms where I want to have several devices hard wired do i just add another unmanaged ethernet switch?

Many thanks

You could consider a Mesh network, with one of the mesh devices plugged into your ethernet cable in the lounge, then you could use wifi on the streamer

Thanks. Our WiFi is about 55 mbs. Hopefully this will be enough

I really want to move away from EoP powerlines

If there’s no easy route to run a cable without it being an eyesore, perhaps you could use flat Ethernet cable which can be run underneath carpets and rugs.

Yes, you can stick an extra switch anywhere on your home network.

Thanks @ChrisSU and @GadgetMan

I have mesh for this use case, but a minimum of two nodes with one of them hard-wired to the streamer. Not for drop outs but so the wi-fi module in the streamer isn’t active.

I use a similar method to get to my NAS drive - no drop outs

Yes that’s exactly what I do. Mesh node supplies a switch which connects streamer and nas drive. Works perfectly.

You can get ethernet patch cords 10s of metres long… you can even get flat ones that are easy to push between carpet and skirting…
