Well, it brought me back to listening to my Vinyl collection. I stopped buying LPs in the 80s when CDs came along. My humble Thorens was relegated to the loft and that was it for 30 years..
A couple of years ago when I restarted my HiFi journey I had the deck serviced, but still didn’t use it much. I was far too focused on my digital journey.
But now I enjoy listening to the sounds of my yoof on the medium on which I originally purchased it.
I’m even thinking of getting an LP12 .. So I guess in some strange way I’m kinda grateful for 3.10
Good to hear of someone taking the positives from a poor situation.
If you are looking for an upgrade to you Thorens (pretty good in their day) then as well as Linn it is worth looking at some other brands like Rega, Michell or Project to name three.
It is also worth hunting out a good local used record shop for additions to your collection.
That’s a great idea .. I will be googling shortly.
I loved mooching around record shops back in the day.
I’ve always wanted a Linn, but we’ll see.. likely to go the pre-owned route.
If you’re in the UK, go to our friends in Leicestershire and see what they can do for you.

If you live in or near a large town or city there are bound to be a few dotted about. It is also worth looking at facebook or similar for record fares near you, they can be good fun and a good way to pick up some (relative) bargains.
I am sure you won’t be disappointed with a used Linn. Try not to go for an eBay bargain priced one as it can be a bit risky in terms of condition. If you can get to a decent dealer although more expensive they will likely have good, cared for examples to choose from.
I did see one on eBay this week but decided to leave it for the reason you stated.
I’m not in a rush.. Will see what comes my way…
You followed maybe the path of @Darkebear , you resurrected his Lp12 from the garage.
Enjoy.
I never totally gave up on the vinyl front end as I always prefered the presentation, but since the start of my digital journey in 2001 with a CD5 my use of the turntable had significantly reduced. However in the last six months I would say that my use of the turntable has changed from occasional to regular. In fact the NDX2/XPSDR is now almost exclusively used for TV or IR (mostly BBC Radio 3 which sometimes suffers the harshness), and serious listening uses the turntable.
Overall I think I am now enjoying the system and music more than I have for many years.
So, am I looking forward to the new firmware, yes definitely, but I am in no hurry and want it right first time even if it takes a while longer.
Mine is an old-spec Linn LT12/ Lingo 1 with the original Ekos arm and Archiv cartridge.
Not SH but not used for more than 20 years - in fact when I had this spec of LP12 this was the latest spec they had to offer, so that dates the build.
Anyway, for similar reasons after some five months of no good HQ music I cracked and spun-up the old LP12 and it was rather better than I expected, all this through an old Stageline into the S1 Pre Active system.
My friendly Dealer offered me a pre-owned Superline stage, powerd by a HiCap DR, and I was shocked at how good it was. We quickly realised my Lingo needed a service and I was loaned a SH Lingo and that system was giving better performance than I remembered possible from Vinyl and better than I had heard elsewhere - and it was an old LP12.
You may be surprised what an old LP12 can offer.
Use it with a good input-RIAA stage. I personally dislike the Linn stage and the Naim Superline is lightyears ahead if you want all the involvement and dynamics that a good Vinyl system can give you - the Linn electronics just don’t do it that I’ve ever heard done like the Superline does.
Have fun!
DB.
Thanks for your insights DB..
I’m surprised how much I’m liking listening to my vinyl.
I’ve been in touch with our friends in Leicestershire and things are happening. I’m not going to spend a fortune, but hope to get something that will provide the basis of further upgrades.
Who knows where it might end
That’s great to know… there’s certainly something that seems to make it easier to listen to I think. Maybe there’s something to this old analogue stuff after all
LP12 ordered.. exciting
Off to Leicestershire to pick up my LP12 - excited!!
5 - 6 hour round trip.. will post pics later.
Have you taken into account you will probably be driving a lot slower/more carefully than normal, given your precious passenger.
@CatalystV12V has redefined the bouncing test.
