I have owned the above Sony DVD recorder for about 15 years & it has performed faultlessly, until very recently.
I have created several hundred DVD’s with it from recordings made form TV shows/films etc. I last created a DVD from it around Christmas last year & since then have only used the machine to recorded a few TV programs & play several commercial film & music DVD’s, which again, have played fine.
Recently I went to make a DVD from something I recorded last Christmas & discovered that the machine displayed a message that the new DVD disc was unrecordable & it would not recognise & play any of the DVD’s I had recorded on the machine over many years. I stress that everything else still works perfectly.
Thinking that, if the laser still reads commercial DVD’s with no problem, I can’t imagine a fault preventing the machine reading DVD’s that have been created on it.
I may be adding 2 & 2 & making 5, but my suspicious mind is wondering if Sony, in one of the regular over air, soft/firmware updates, have deliberately disabled the machines functionality to record & play DVD’s created on it. I assume TV stations & media owners now don’t like providing for free, material which they now want to charge for through streaming services etc. I have always thought that this is why DVD recorders were fairly quickly withdrawn from sale.
I have not yet contacted Sony about this, & if I am right, I am sure they won’t acknowledge this to me. I find it hard to believe that this is simply something that has gone wrong with the machine.
Can anyone please help me here or shed any light on the matter before I contact Sony?
