Not too bad either,
Not a bad version from the Reverend
And finally Bobby gives it the Womack treatment
I could do a whole thread just on Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes but for now here is one of my favourites - Be For Real. Featuring on lead vocals the late and so very soulful
Teddy Pendergrass.
Another band who deserves their own thread.
One more before bed .
Disappointed no-one has thrown this in.
Or indeed this.
Not released until 1985 and not that well known in the mainstream but it got a big plug recently on Netflix during the documentary - ‘The Two Killings of Sam Cooke’ so hopefully it will become more popular. It was supposedly considered to be too black by his record company at the time it was recorded.
To say it is the best Sam Cooke you will ever hear is subjective it is definitley a classic and presents a more gritty vocal style than people are used to but Sam Cooke released some incredible records ‘Night Beat’, ‘Mr Soul’, ‘Ain’t That Good News’ contain some incredible vocal performances as do his earlier LP’s tracks like ‘I’m a Country Boy’ that are more Nat King Cole than Otis Redding but beautiful all the same.
Great music frenchrooster.
Agh. I forgot Night Beat. Truly a great record.
