Hi! I have Olive 72/180 but a CB hi-cap. Is there a known synergy benefit from getting an olive hi-cap?
Definitely sounds better when they all look the same.
I don’t believe there is any benefit otherwise
They are the same inside, but mid 90’ies onwards, transformer brand was changed.
The benefit is to have the latest serviced as your Hicap must be some 40 years old.
From 1993 (and present), Nuvotem. Prior to that Holden & Fisher.
I will admit to matching 2 HiCaps both with H&F Transformers for use with my 82. Although they are quite a few years apart…!!
Servicing - Is A Thing.
“How often should I service my Naim product? This is a question often asked, and the Service Department recommendations are as follows: for the Chrome Bumper (circa 1975 - 1989) and Olive (circa 1989 - 2000) range products, we recommend every 8 - 10 years and for the newer Black products (2000 - present), every 12 - 15 years.”
Thank you for your response . I works and looks perfect so I think it might have been serviced at one point.
I love your optimism.
The components inside degrade slowly and need replacing around every 10 years.
Looks do not a Service History make.
Agree! Currently the 180 is in Salisbury. A 140 takes its place for the moment. Next up is the Hi-Cap. Then the 72.
Right order to do them in.
I bought a used CB HiCap recently. Looked lovely, connectors on the rear looked immaculate. The capacitors that Class A removed and replaced during service looked… absolutely awful. Leaking something unnatural looking out of the terminals. Unless you know its history I’d definitely look to having the older kit serviced as a precaution.

And don’t forget, both UK authorised service centres can tell you when/if the items were last serviced by them.
