After the sad story of the death of my CDX2 I have decided on a refresh for my sources.
I’ve already replaced the CDX2 with a Marantz SA12 ( with no appreciable drop off in SQ ) and that’s with bog standard phono to phono interconnect.
That rendered the XPS DR redundant and I’m swooping that and the current 2 year old P6 for a P8 with Apheta 3 MC which will arrive some time next week.
I’m also investing in a Chord din to RCA for the Marantz and a Chord power block.
That should do me for a bit. I think it will leave me with a better balanced system ( particularly as I’m playing vinyl about 75% of the time ) and next year I need to get the 250Dr serviced and then think about replacing my beloved Arcs.
Not cheap this hobby but as my wife who has absolutely no interest in music let alone hifi says - you can’t take it with you - which reminds me to play some Alan Parsons Project.
Have a lovely weekend everyone and stay safe in the storm
This hobby is not cheap and you can’t take it with you but as a music listener and a Hifi enthusiast enjoyed browsing record stores and auditioning gear since the seventies. Referring back to can’t take it with you, well maybe not but with great pleasure we do enjoy the hobby and listening to music which for me is my collection of Classic Rock, Blues, Classic and Outlaw Country, Folk, and male and female artists. My system consists of an original LP12, an XS integrated amp and Flatcap power supply, the Stageline, and a pair of B&W 602 S2 stand-mount speakers. On the home theatre side, I have a Marantz 1501 slimline AV receiver connected to the XS. Best of both worlds, analog and streaming. A few years ago I recorded ( converted to WAV) several LPs and listened to them when in the living room. which reminds me, Alan Parson, Jethro Tul and the many others in my collection are a great listen. For me, it’s hours of pleasure. Enjoy the music and have a great weekend and stay safe
It’s my wife’s comment also, “you can’t take it with you”. Unfortunately I am Mr Cautious and I struggle with this, although deep down inside I know the ladies are 100% correct!!
Enjoy your upgrade journey - I will try to join in😂
Thank you @analoglistener . Yes I love a deep delve through 2nd hand record shops looking for mint copies of Steely Dan or Mikes Davis etc. Have a lovely weekend.
It is a good idea for sure. I started off the weekend recording LPs to WAV in alphabetical order A-Z beginning with ACDC and Arrowsmith and this afternoon, the Alman Brothers and Alan Parson Project, So far I have recorded 110 individual songs (10 LPs of 1000 in my collection), The weatherman said it’s going to be a very snowy winter.
Enjoy music and have a good one
You’re welcome. I also enjoy delving through second-hand record shops, looking for used LPs in mint condition. To date, I have 1000 of those gems, including Steely Dan . Have a lovely weekend too.
When I ripped my vinyl, and later my CDs, I did that, methodically working through all, and listening at the same time. It was an interesting exercise, including listening to some albums I realised I hadn’t played for many years. In a handful of cases I chucked LPs, wondering whatever had possessed me to buy, but it was literally only a handful in well over 500 albums. I also chucked some that had deteriorated too far, beyond Audacity’s ability to adequately fix and with noise that was too intrusive, instead buying digital copy at that point.
One thing of which I was completely oblivious at the time of ripping vinyl, was the importance of metadata for most streaming software, so all of my LP rips lacked were metadata free, to cause problems a few years later when I switched to streaming (from my own collection).
(No idea how many individual songs as I my interest was/is almost universally only in albums).
