ATC. SCM20 PSLT… would definitely be on my shortlist in this price and performance category.
I have the possibility to buy a pair of ATC SCM40A it would mean dispensing with my 250 NC . My question is would ATC SCM40 Passives with the 250 sound better than the actives.
I have 40 passives with an NC250, and I am very happy with the combination. I don’t think this combination is better or worse than the active 40s, just different. I suggest you listen to both and go for what you prefer.
Wow, that’s a lot of speakers to run off one amp - do you connect using a combination of series and parallel so the final impedance is ok?
Love it ![]()

Just to close off the search-I bought the ATC SCM40a’s. After listening to Splendors and the new Linns, the 40A’s sounded superb in my room. I have always been more preoccupied with words and emotion than heavy base so these were are revelation overall . Perhaps the Splendor 8.2 were a little more defined on clarity but overall outperformed by the 40A’s
Thank you to all who assisted with advice throughout the thread.
Good stuff and enjoy!

It’s one hell of an amp though…![]()
