I have some Auva’s under atc 11’s and 40’s. Much better sonically and visually than the Townshend podiums I had which I found were better than the Gaias.
I have an atom on a piece of furniture, not a dedicated stand and their “pucks” whilst not ideal visually have tightened everything up sound wise….
They are way less intrusive than the Townshend podiums I had and give me a little more space to position the subs.
Each room is different I guess but in my room they have really improved the performance of the speaker. Plus you can get them 60day sale or return and the guy there is super helpful…
An update on Stack Audio Auva 50. Currently using Herbie gliders. I felt directly things happened. Feet do matter and do change the sound.
But.
There is no truth in that it always works the same way as for everyone. For me and my speakers stands which har very heavy Rogoz stands it directly felt like the speakers became disconnected from the groove and low end drive. Think of a kick drum in a drum kit that you stand next too and feel the bass come with power against you. All that disappeared and it felt more like a tiny kick drum in chest level. The foundation of bass suddenly felt disconnected and coherence was lost. The bass became thinner and lacked the slam I enjoyed before. The mids also become more forward and in your face. It altered the pitch of instruments so they feel more nasal and thin. Again body removed. Overall they thin out the sound so much I almost felt they disconnected the 10" bass driver. So I moved them 10cm closer to the wall but not the same groove as the Herbie gliders. I will stay with herbie gliders for now since I have NSS 333 incoming and don’t want to many moving targets but first impression is I seem to be rather alone in not preferring the Auvas
I know, I use the Giant Gliders paired with Fat Dots between the stands and speakers, the performance is so good there is no point in spending three times more. HAL products are very special indeed.
Yes, exactly that. Giant Fat Dots to be more precise. I also have regular Gliders and Fat Dots on my secondary system, and having swapped them several times I can say the performance is basically the same.
To me, Auva’s (I use 50’s) are good middle ground between isolation (IsoAcoustics GAIA for example) and coupling (spikes). They offer the best of both worlds.
With spikes you will always get the best impact and punch of the sound. But you will also make your room play with the music since you couple the speakers to the floor. This can diffuse detail and will give you overall more blurry sound with less air and soundstage in the sound.
Isolation gives you the best depth, air and reach in both ends, but lacks impact, punch and immediacy. Isolation gives great resolution also, since the room doesn’t play with the speakers.
Auva’s are somewhere in the middle. They give you more clarity and good soundstaging but don’t take away the punch and immediacy. With bigger Auvas you get more depth and 3D and tighter sound. I’ve had 70’s and 50’s and actually preferred the 50’s. By no means do Auva give you thin sound or lack bass. I don’t recognize this description at all. This must be down to system tuning. I use them under ATC 50ASL’s.
I have used Herbie’s Giant Titanium Decoupling Gliders under by speakers and system rack for quite awhile now and they do improve the sound of the music. They do have a 60-Day Trial Period and take returns if not satisfied. You do have to pay for the return shipping. They have reviews on their website and have sold to customers world wide.
First test for one day. Will evaluate them more later on when I have got to know the NSS 333. First impression was not a wow moment at my place with my system. If you have a bass heavy system/room and need tighter bass with more in your face mids and details then I’m sure they’re great The lack of punch, drive, groove and immediacy I got with Auva is a big no no since this is so important for me and something i prioritise higher than huge soundstage, extreme midrange clarity etc.
my experience with the Auvas is that initially it is indeed similar to what you describe. But after a full 24 hrs (more or less), the bass comes out and after a few more days they give the last 10%.
Of course, YMMV
