Sorry it’s taken me so long to reply Mark. I have been seeing your updates. Good to see you have rebuilt these. I’ll be interested to hear your thoughts once you have them setup. I have just got a 282 with my NDX2/200. With my fusion speakers I feel no need for a subwoofer. Even with the 200, the bass is really potent and controlled. As much as the Hypex driving the 12” BMS if memory serves me right. I think it may have been a bit more “dry” with the Hypex, if that makes sense, but I think I do prefer the same driver being passively driven in the fusion. It seems to be more homogenous.
Yes it will output convolution filters which I use in roon.
The interface is a little clunky but I soon got the hang of it. I know rew is more fully featured but its like swimming through treacle trying to understand that software.
Looks interesting! Thanks ![]()
No worries at all Mark ![]()
I’ve not got round to the DSP tweaks yet but the AUVA feet are on and they’ve made a big difference, things are back to being tight and punchy. These feet work better than the Gaias I’ve used for years and took for granted. Really glad I tried them.
You’ve built up a great system there! The 282 is brilliant isn’t it?! I loved mine
I’ve not heard the NAP200 but from what I’ve read about it here I’m not surprised it’s driving your speakers so well.
I know what you mean about the bass sound when driven by plate amps, it’s hard to describe, will have to see how I get on with it. This is all just a bit of fun since I had all the bits, I don’t see it as a long term thing. I hadn’t even thought of using them with my current system for the past couple of years so obviously haven’t missed much!
Yes REW is a little daunting! I’ve only used it for comparison measurements while tweaking things. That side of it is easy thankfully!
I should be able to have REW on my Mac laptop and the Hypex filter program on my PC laptop next to it … so measure, adjust Hypex filter, load to amp, measure again … for each speaker. What fun ![]()
I took a couple of very quick measurements with HouseCurve that Gary mentioned above. Just on my iPad with the built in mic.
Green is the main speakers, grey is with the bass modules. The three main modes from my room are quite obvious, length, height, width respectively. Not sure what the dip at around 100hz is, maybe another mode at the height of the bass driver. Will investigate with REW and the proper mic, probably on Monday when my wife is at work!
I should be able to reduce the modes with the Hypex DSP, but not less than those from the main speakers of course.
The bass modules fall off before 400hz so the grey lines above that are likely me just holding the iPad in a different position ![]()
Listening with these active for the past couple of days has been interesting. I don’t feel that they’re having as much as an impact as they did with my previous system. At one point I went to turn them off to compare and they were already off.
Your room is way better behaved than mine I have a massive dip and rise in the bass.
Yes it’s not too bad thankfully, I have no room treatment, just normal living room stuff. The unit between the speakers is not doing me any favours, but nowhere else to put the boxes.
I saw the measurements on your topic and the difference the filter has made, a very useful feature in Roon!
I wish there was a DSP box of good enough quality to use with a Naim system. The benefits are so obvious, the Audyssey system on my AV amp, heck even my sub has built in DSP allowing it to be placed pretty much anywhere!
Edit: From this, and what I’m hearing so far, it does seem that my room can cope with a 10” bass driver, so that’s good ![]()
This remote was definitely worth getting. Both amps are now linked so I can now change presets on the fly, go in and out of standby etc and they both keep in sync.
I’ve not bothered mounting the receiver on the cabinet ![]()
What I wasn’t expecting was the volume works as well, the Hypex manual is a bit vague about this when using the high level input, saying to use the gain knob on the amps. This is extremely useful as the mute button on the remote allows direct comparisons.
Being able to alter the volume via the remote is handy but there’s no feedback, for that they have an OLED display which also shows all the other functions. A bit expensive for now, £60 + vat + shipping.
While installing this I also set the auto standby to match my system, so everything turns off after 30 mins and then the amps wake up when they detect a signal … nice ![]()
