Speaker recommendations for NAP300DR

For Neat with Naim try Audio Genesis in Pyrmont near Casino - see Harry he is a Naim/neat guru

I have the D2R:s at home for a few days but have not listened much yet. They look good, not to big and seem to give the instruments more body than something like the Marten. At the same quite detailed and so are promising at low levels.

I think you should give the Marten a chance. We all listen different and they fill some of your requirements fine. They were just a bit over the top for me.

I give the Ersatz-272 at least the first half of next year. I will be busy with retirement and selling the house for a while. I picked up a s/h 272 at a very low cost I am using now.

another vote for Kudos Titan 505, they are my next speaker when budget allows, also demo thier new speaker cable

Thanks @Antz … but they may have to come off the list, a quick search has not turn up any dealers for Kudos in Australia

I would also recommend the Kudos 505, also i would try the pmc 25.26 if available.

I think your room will dictate the choice and once you’ve got your shortlist, a home demo is a must. I had a pair of Neat Ektras on loan but they were really disappointing and not what I was expecting. My vote would be for The ProAc D2Rs.

I’ll keep looking for the 505 down here in the colonies…25.26 is too large otherwise would be on the list

Absolutely agree that a home demo would be ideal. Its just not possible here with every speaker and in the middle of a global pandemic. Soliciting this kind of feedback from people with the same amp is the best compromise. Hopefully this will get me down to a couple of likely candidates. I really appreciate everyone who has taken the time to respond.

I haven’t heard most of what’s on the list but can wholeheartedly recommend Neat. I have used MFS (XLS predecessor) for some 15 years and not only do they (still) sound fantastic and have great synergy with Naim, Bob at Neat provides first class customer service.

They need to be on the dedicated stands and really show their worth if you can give them some space.

How small?

Thanks @Elfer, Bevo made the point on the stands too so will be sure to factor them in!

4m x 3.5m

Kudos not available in Australia

Thanks @Bevo

Mrpseudonym, what is your source? Do you play vinyl, cds stream music use an FM radio or all of these?

This matters because if you are going 100% streaming, then I would propose something a bit radical. Keep your Naim pre-amp but sell the 300DR, great though it is. Buy a set of Dutch & Dutch 8C active speakers. They worked best with only a 20cm gap between them and our back wall, giving the highest quality bass we have ever heard from a domestic speaker in our living room. Certainly better than our current system can manage (see profile).

I have posted about my impressions of them on the Streaming forum, so you can find the comments with the search function.

Other observations: the Kudos Titan 505 are superb and superb with a NAP300DR, if you can buy them where you live.

Take care with Dynaudio speakers in your particular setting. They are very well engineered and capable of great music but they normally have a large, rear facing port to let out deep bass. This means that they need plenty of space behind them if you are to avoid room boom. They may need as much as a metre of free space behind them to sound right - they did in our room. Or not, depending on your room!

The baby Neat Ultimatum needs something like a NAP300DR to start to shine but when it does it’s a great speaker.

Happy hunting, BF

…compass?

Why do you need a 300 dr in such small room? But if you want to stay with this amp, I would more advice stand mounth speakers, from sonus faber, Proac, Pmc…Dynaudio…
