Spotify lossless is finally happening in October

So it’s finally happening in October no additional cost for premium subscribers. I’m not a Spotify fan but it’s good to have more options. Here is a link to the article.

Will this just happen on my ND5XS2 or is new firmware required?

Perhaps the two Spotify lossless threads should be merged?

" Lossless on Spotify Premium is here.

Lossless audio has been one of the most anticipated features on Spotify and now, finally , it’s started rolling out to Premium listeners in select markets. Premium subscribers will receive a notification in Spotify once Lossless becomes available to them. Whether you’re diving into a new album or revisiting old favorites, lossless delivers the highest music audio quality on Spotify."

Now the 3 Year Qobuz deal makes much more sense.

" With Lossless, you can now stream tracks in up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC"

Still not as good as Qobuz or Tidal.

I do n’t see the lossless option yet (The Netherlands) and did not receive any notification. When the Spotify app is connected to my Naim ND5XS2 using Spotify Connect it is not possible to change ‘media quality’ settings in the Spotify app, so I wonder how that would work.

They just lost their one and only incentive. Now I feel bad for them and can image it’s a sad day at the office.

I have it and am in the Netherlands. Just wait a few hours (or days).

It’s more than enough. For me anyway.

As @wdoyle points out, they still offer higher quality. Also, they pay artists better. An important incentive for me to be with Tidal instead of Spotify. So no need to be overly dramatic, although I’m sure this news will indeed hurt some competitors.

Can you change it to lossless when connected to you Naim streamer? Also wonder how one knows if it streams lossless. The stream quality is not displayed anywhere in the Spotify or Naim app.

I wonder if this requires a firmware update. There is also a stream quality setting in the Naim app for Spotify.

… and I wonder if the old plaform will also support it.

The news item states Oktober. Greetings from near Amersfoort.

Waiting for reports how it sounds compared to Qobuz hires :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

True that regarding the payout to artists. Spotify could and should do better.

I thought it would never happen. lol

I do hope SuperUniti will be supported and yes a firmware update will be needed for that.
