Spotify Silent on NDX 2

Hello, I’m posting on behalf of a family member who is struggling with Spotify on their NDX 2. The system version is 3.11.0.5662.

Up until earlier last week Spotify was working without issue. Now, you can connect successfully from a phone or via the Naim app and tracks can be started - the album art displays and the track time starts counting up - but there is no sound.

Switching to some other input - internet radio, or playing from a local iTunes server - is absolutely fine, sound is normal. We’ve reviewed all of the settings but there doesn’t seem to be an obvious issue. We can connect from different phones/OSs, but the same problem of no sound output from Spotify persists across them all.

Has anyone else had a similar issue? Are there any troubleshooting steps we can try?

Try logging out of Spotify and then log back in

Hi Simon, many thanks for the response. When you say log out of Spotify, do you mean log out from the Spotify app on a phone?

Just to note that from three different phones, each with their own paid Spotify account, we can connect to the NSX 2 via Spotify Connect successfully, but that no sound is output.

In the Naim app, select the NDX2, go into settings (top right), then under audio settings, check this is set to fixed & not hybrid.

Hi Neil, thank you for your reply. We tried all three settings under Audio Settings (Hybrid, Fixed and Variable) and it made no difference - no sound output from Spotify with any of the three settings.

Neil, thank you. I’ve just been informed that changing the Audio Setting to Fixed in the app has resulted in sound output from Spotify now working. Apologies, I thought we had tried all those options…

I have the same issue lately from time to time with my ND5 XS2, but the “Audio Settings” menu in my case is completely blank. Is that normal behaviour?

It will be if you let the nd5 xs2 ( or other streamer) into an external dac.

I also have an issue with Spotify Connect that started recently. If the volume mode is set to ‘Variable’ and the Spotify app connects to the ND5XS2 (Spotify Connect stream not started yet), the volume is reduced to approx. 50%. I have to open the Naim app and increase the volume again. No such problem if the volume mode is set to ‘Fixed’ (sort of obvious).

Hi all,

I have had the same issue with my Naim Nova and Spotify Lossless, it’s worked brilliantly since Spotify went lossless, but yesterday it was silent on my Nova.

Nothing seems to bring it back, rebooting everything and logging out of Spotify. The Nova works with Spotify on compressed streaming, but clearly this is somewhat suboptimal :blush:
