SR Gamma vs Theta

Same here Graham. I went down the rabbit hole but eventually sold the ee8 and just use the Cisco and the phoenix net switch.

I use melco Ethernet cables apart from a ln audioquest diamond on the last leg.

I sold both. The PN was too ‘syrupy’ for my liking.

I must admit I haven’t taken out my PN to see if it still “adds” something…
Maybe one to experiment with.

How long have you had the Alpha-X? I’d give it a full two weeks to bed in, ideally keep your streamer playing 24x7 even if not listening.

I also have a modified Meraki MS220 and found the upstream leg (router to switch here) has a notable effect. Do you have a BJC there?

I have Sigma v2 Ethernet from switch to streamer, wonder if it’s a better match with Naim.

It was a traded in cable so well used and had it for a week so far.

Yes I have Blue Jeans towards the Meraki.

It’s strange that we have such opposite views on gear:

  • I found 300 series lean sounding. Other not.
  • Some found the Phoenixnet sirupy. Other , like me, find it having Naim sound characteristics.
  • I found, with @Hifi_Naim_CNNL , that Shunyata Ethernet sound dull. But other found them fantastic.

I would not say all Shunyatas are the same. I would not call the Theta dull but rather relentless for example. The Alpha-X isn’t dull either but a bit too rounded for my taste.

The 300 is on the lean side but once you add an NPX this changes dramatically in my opinion. This is the case whether you put the NPX on the 332 or 333.

Ah ok, a bit rounded is not a bit romantic?

I heard twice the full 300 series with 2 different speakers. Vs the 252/300 or 552/500 on same speakers, i found them lean.
