Stanley Kubrick - 2001 a space odyssey - soundtrack

Ligeti piano solo’s Musica Ricercata II are also used in Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut. Played by Dominic Harlan. Harlan a surname from 1930’s Germany. You can still find the CD on Amazon. More interesting Kubrick music is Prokofiev’s Alexander Nevsky. Kubrick was a big fan of this work.

Perhaps a compilation album would be a place to start. There is a 9CD set on Amazon for £21.50 which seems to have a diverse range of music on there. Seems like a bargain.

It’s in Culshaw’s autobiography: Decca initially allowed Kubrik to use their recording but refused him to name orchestra or conductor. As these things go, once the movie had turned to success Decca regretted this decision but by then, MGM had turned to DG for the record of the sound track.
