I traded in several 500 units against a Linn Klimax (I posted “Boxes no more” on this in Dec 25). The Linn dealer did a persuasive job to trade in then NAP against the new Solo 500s, decent p/x and decent price on the NAP. I decided to stick with the NAP. I’ve now been living with the Klimax and NAP500DR for a few months and am blown away by the amp’s abilities and glad I did not go with the Solos. The NAP’s used prices have taken quite a hit. It looks like a good time to buy if you are in the market for a top quality power amp. They are still a lot of money but the options for a new amp of the same standard and the same price must be vanishingly small

Must admit, Linn DSM’s through Naim Amps do sound wonderful.
Loving my Selekt Classik Hub with Stereo Organik through a pair of Naim NC350’s.

So you’re running the latest version of the Klimax DSM into the 500DR. What cables did you use and how did you find the removal of the 552DR (I think that’s what you were using)
The NAP 500 is a simply awful amplifier, I really must believe this.

I wonder why that is. A few have appeared on the famous auction site which is not normal. A couple are still there. Any thoughts on why that may be?
I agree that the selling Naim on the 2nd hand market sucks compared to what it used to be. At least in the U.S. be prepared to take a big hit, even on mint condition gear less than 10 yrs old.
I suspect when I’m ready to move on from my 252/300 I might even have to pay someone to remove it from my house.

Less demand. Competition is tough.
I kept the Superlumina speaker cables. The Linn dealer installed the Klimax with the cable he provided for the amp. I think it’s a bespoke - something about polarity? He didn’t charge me so it could not have been very esoteric or expensive. I think they made the cable at the dealer’s (they are a large concern). Elsewhere I am using Shunyata Theta which are fantastic. It may be heretical but I have not found the loss of the pre-amp any deterioration. Going from 4 boxes (ND555, 552 and 2 power supplies) to just the Klimax has been fine or me. Each person’s circumstances vary - room, speakers, hearing acuity - so I’m not saying that my new set up is better than the 4 box way

What do Linn DSMs do better than a NAIM333?
For me, they don’t keep falling off the network
Honestly Steve, apart from my apparently unresolvable network issues with Naim networked black boxes (my 3 MuSo’s have no problems), I just really like the way they sound and function.
The Organik DAC in my Classik Hub is fabulous and the integration with my Urika II LP12 and 150 speakers is perfect.
The ROON integration is also excellent.
I still drive it all with a pair of NC 350’s. For me they deliver a better SQ than the Linn 500 Stereo. I can’t afford the Solo 500’s, so didn’t demo them.

And if you can’t find someone to cart your 252/300 away, i should reckon they would make a fine doorstop. That’s probably what I’ll have to do with mine.
