Almost fell off the sofa when that damn klaxon sounded on the phone. Jeez !

Yes, bloody terrifying. Apparently 3 million of us in the region received the klaxon this evening.

Daughter and Mrs Ac got the slet, I didn’t - odd.

Injuries caused due to shock from that klaxon will probably exceed any harm from the storm !

Me too.
We live approximately 400 metres from the sea in North Devon, just hoping there’s not going to be too much damage or injuries.

The forecast is so bad in the west of Ireland we’ve been advised to take in our roads overnight.

Was meant to be coming to UK tomorrow

We are in the orange zone. Getting quite windy now.

Phil

We got the red warning alarm on the phone tonight. The wind is getting quite strong now but not too bad so far. We did walk around the garden and make sure there was nothing that we could do something about being in danger of flying about. I went out and got enough fuel for several days for the generator.

We live in North Wales (and about 1500ft up) so if the wind gets up to the speed they say it could there is a real chance of the overhead power lines coming down somewhere and we will need the generator.

Still, there is plenty of food in the freezer, fuel for heating and cooking etc. so we can hunker down for a few days if necessary.

Good luck to everyone who may be affected by the storm. Let’s hope it won’t be quite as bad as predicted.

Hope everyone’s doing OK. Had a couple of short power cuts and a bit of wind down here in West Devon but nothing too crazy.

A friend in North Wales sent me these this morning…

At least one tree has come down onto a car a few houses further down the street. Workmen were out cutting it up earlier.

Other side of town:

Under a mile away:

No flying pigs?

At 07:00 my son and his partner flew out from Heathrow to Munich on the way to Mumbai. All went amazingly well. They had been very apprehensive about missing their connection.

All flights and ferries cancelled here - flights were expected to resume this afternoon but now abandoned, though of course in part may be conditions at other airports. Many trees down: as of 8 am it was over 50 in places affecting the public, but since then they haven’t been able to keep up with details other than local radio advising whenever another road has become blocked. In one place a roof had blown off and was blocking the road, and elsewhere many reports of flying slates/tiles, some damaging cars. Some localities are without power, but quite localised. Thankfully so far no reports of injuries.

Here’s wishing all is well for all forum members, families and loved ones, as the storm tracks through.

We are away for the weekend but have been monitoring the wind speeds at home (a few miles outside Preston) via the wind turbine generation and the Met Office app.

The energy system shows zero wind from about 3.30 to 6.30 this morning. My wife says she was looking at a weather map and home was in the eye of the storm then. Steady generation around 7 to 14kW on the wind turbine since then (we have a one third share).

The Met has been saying 30 mph steadily (with 60 mph gusts) from first thing this morning but down to around 27 now and falling to 22 later on and continuing to slow down after that, so I think we are past the worst

Windy all day, a short power cut around lunch time, a tree down just past the pub blocked the road for a few hours but otherwise (and keeping fingers crossed) just lots of wind.

Oh, nearly forgot, a pink child’s sand pit was travelling up the road - wind powered.

Our broadband has just gone down. Gah!

And you all rushed out to the evacuation point? Hid in the cellar? Got under the table? Collected your free rations? Got the boat out and rowed round the neighbourhood rescuing your neighbours?
