Hi,
I’m looking for a new streamer/preamp to replace the N272 which does not connect to WiFi anymore. Speakers are PMC Twenty 25. Any suggestions?
If you want to stay with Naim, then the NSC222 could be just the thing. You can also upgrade it in the future with the NPX300 PSU.
You’ll need a 00-010-0247 Interconnect (New Classic Preamp XLR to Legacy NAP250 XLR) to connect the 222 to the 250.
Thank you James!
I suppose the latest streamers don’t have the same WiFi connections issues?
Anything in a closer look to the 250 DR ?
The latest streamers work just fine via WiFi
The NDX 2 will output variable volume. Matches the era of the NAP 250 DR. Lots of threads on here debating pros and cons.
Variable volume? That’s scary!
Not with the new kit. You’d need something like the NDX2, 282 and Hicap to front the 250, for an OC match.
Another approach could be to look at the NSC222 with the latest NC 250. A visual match, 2 boxes and the latest 250 is a real step up on the 250DR.
Have you considered hard wiring your 272 to your router instead of using WiFi?
I think this could be a last resort. Going to try a Fritzbox wifi repeater cabled to the 272.
FYI my nds is much better hard wired compared to wi fi
I found that my XPS DR > NDX 2 > SuperCap DR > NAC 282 > worked quite well with my NAP 250 DR.
Good luck with your decision…
If that’s the only reason your chucking it, just get one of these and plug it into the ethernet socket on the 272:
Vonet’s wifi bridge. I used one of these for 10 years with my HDX.
Thanks for the advice. So I presume this device connects to your router. What about the USB end?
I would hazard a guess that you plug the usb into something that will provide power to the device
Yep, the USB powers the bridge. There’s a slightly updated model but I’ve used both and they have never let me down.
The ethernet connection goes into your receiving device, not the router.
It takes the wireless signal and outputs it to the ethernet cable. It makes the receiving device “think” that it has a wired connection, but the bridge device is much better at holding the wireless signal.
Got it now! Have a Fritz 1200 repeater sitting on top of the 272 and connected by ethernet. Bulkier than a Vonets but does not require any set up and no additional charger (for the USB end).
The 272 needs a reboot to stop the WiFi mode.
May be I can even hide the repeater behind.
It’s generally best to keep any networking equipment as far away as possible from your HiFi. Ideally in a different room with a long Ethernet cable, but any distance will help.
