Ripping a CD is illegal under UK law. It was legalised for a while but overturned by the High Court in 2015
Thanks. Utterly insane. Seems in the EU private copies are allowed ~everywhere, based on the Wiki link.
I am sure that they considered that CDs degrade (I have quite a few early ones in the collection with visible holes) and that, since copying is illegal and the CD owner only licensed the content, the label is obliged to provide a new disc. Oh, they did not? Big surprise
