Streaming classical music/video

Hi all,

I like the idea of watching classical music videos (recorded and live); orchestras, string quartets, chamber music in churches, etc.

On my Vigin TV I have a free channel called Stingray Classica, which is ok, but I’d prefer to be able to select music as I do with straight audio, and there are quite a few attractive looking offerings out there from the likes of the Marquee, Medici, Berlin Phil, but they’re quite expensive.

Anyone have any suggestions/recommendations?

Thanks, Tony

I enjoy Berlin Phil’s Digital Concert Hall. There’s currently a 7 day free trial. You can then get a 30-day ticket € 19.90 or € 9.90 for 7 days. There’s a vast back catalogue. Petrenko, Rattle, Abbado and of course von Karajan. Plus lots of visiting conductors. Chamber music naturally the programme has a classical Germanic flavour. There’s Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons” with the Berliner Barock Solisten (2013).

The cheapest subscription is € 14.90 per month or € 152.10 per year. If you renew, then 10% reduction is normal.

Recommended if you like the programme.

Good topic! Ihave no suggestions, but may be interested once I have my room sorted. I did during COVID dip into streamed live recordings of opera, opera, at which time NY Met offered one a day free. With opera one thing I disliked was zooming in to the person singing - I’d far rather see the whole stage view just as if I was in the audience! Maybe different with orchestras as there isn’t other drama going on, though you might be wanting to watch a cello player when the camera zooms int to something else!

Thanks for your comments.

A year’s subscription might make a nice birthday present from Mrs Tony.

Then play the audio through the Naim (only Bluetooth I think).

Interestingly I tried my TV though the hifi using Bluetooth and it was quite good (the sound of the Enterprise on Star Trek Next Gen was awesome ).

I might do a trial on the main concert providers :slightly_smiling_face:

Cheers,
Tony

I can see both sides. On one hand I would like to view the orchestra as a whole as if I was there, but equally with a good director, zooming into the oboe player to see their performance, finger work at key moments, might be good too.

I think I need to do a few trials to see/hear what’s what.

Cheers,
Tony

Ideally, of course, selectable zoom!

Most smart and newer TVs have a variety of outputs and connections these days. Bluetooth if you have to.
