I have a Uniti Atom. When I used it as a stand alone unit, I connected 2 subwoofers, one to the left and one to right preamp outputs. I now have it connected to a power amp. I want to connect the subwoofers again. Can I split each preamp output with a Y connector? One to the subwoofer and one to the amp? The subs are powered.
Yes it does. I’m going to use a subwoofer RCA cable to hook them up. My question is about hooking them up to a Y connector on the back of the preamp. Your thoughts?
As Richard says, running a power amp and a sub from the same RCA out is probably going to impair performance. Using a high level connection avoids this.
I probably should have given more information about my system. I use an Atom 1 as the preamp, which is connected to a power amp. There is no connection available for a sub. That’s why I’m trying to find out about using a Y splitter with the outputs from the preamp. They’re low level. Before adding the power amplifier, I used both preamp out connections on the Atom for my subs. Basically, I’m doing the same thing with that signal. Only this time it will be split. One to the power amp and one to the sub. Both left and right channels. This is adding two low level RCA outputs to the atom. Both speakers have built in powered subs.
My speakers are Golden Ear Triton Ones. The Tritons have a built in powered subwoofer with a standard RCA input. There is a gain adjustment on them.
If I have understood correctly you only need a low level connection if you are using an AV amp with a .1 or LFE output. With a regular 2 channel setup like the Atom, the regular loudspeaker connection also provides the signal for the built in subwoofers, so that’s all you need.
I have a Nova and connect my single s/510 via Rel standard supplied hi level connection cable directly to the speakers (805d4sig), yellow and black to right, red to the left. Works very well. (It’s a right faff having to split the end of that cable though!)
