The Superline was designed as a natural complement to the NAC552 and a step up from the earlier Prefix, i.e. if you wanted to add phono capability to the NAC552 then the Superfine became the natural choice, so I guess you could say it was on a similar level.
I’m up and running and even with a SL virtually new and after a full system shut down the upgrade from the 52’s S boards to SL is clear with a more open and energetic ( in a positive way) sound.
I’ve settled on the 333 ohm load using the 500ohm and 1k Resistor plugs together rather than the 500R and 1nf capacitor plug combo.
The risk of RFI hasn’t materialised either. Maybe using the pair of R plugs ‘shunts’ to ground any stray RFI.
Lucky you, I need the capacitance plug to reduce the faint foreign voices between LP changes!
I have managed to locate a source for a 470R z-foil airplug.
But am now toying with DiYing a 453 with some z foils from the supplier mentioned above.
Can’t see that I’ll ever use some of the standard plugs so will use one as a donor.
PS the SL will get a lot better after a month or so of being powered up, and benefits from its own shelf away from PSUs
Well done sourcing a 470 Wardy and the wise tips. They are solid and whether they are familiar to me or not is irrelevant as the spirit of sharing highlights the best that a forum can offer IMO
Yes an obvious itch Wardy. I’m curious what pre are you using ?
I removed the S boards from my 52 this morning ( to reduce SC load) and I have to say that my analogue system ( as I refer to it as) after a couple of hours warm up sounds sublime. I read some time ago that there is a positivity to the SL and 52 sharing the same path to earth. Its early days but I prefer what I’m hearing today to the Urika/ Chord Music IC combo that I was using up to a few weeks ago
Like others, always interested to read and learn new things - for example about the SuperLine - and how different things work. I’m guessing you’re using your new SL connected directly to 52, etc.
FWIW, have previously considered Urika, so that’s useful to know and understand.
Picking up on something else you’ve just referred to “analogue system”. By inference, maybe there is also your “digital system” too. And this is interesting because that’s the way I think about our two systems at home, as well, one is olive and analogue and the other is original classic and digital. It’s just an interesting philosophical point of difference about how music is enjoyed.
I remember it well and I still have a large bag of silver load plugs with all manner of loads!!
Given the interest here again on Airplug load plugs, we have emailed Naim spares again and maybe they can now make some after all! So we have placed a test order just to see
Lets see what happens!!
That’s very interesting R. Yes my S1 system ( with an ND555 source) has the newer much higher specification amps etc. It’s a wonderful system. David from The Sound Organisation was very complimentary about how it sounded when he was here a couple of weeks ago. But my Olive kit generates feelings of nostalgia and also with the NAT 01 tuner and my high spec LP12 some great listening sessions . You will ‘get’ this as well as many of the forum members who have a similar mix of systems
Information/A couple of things for everyone to be aware of:
The Radikal package//combination with a discounted Urika ended in October last year, so there is no benefit in buying the two together as a package now, so take your time and have some demos.
The Machined Radikal 2 now has the option of the Utopik power supply upgrade (replacing the existing Dynamk PS). It’s a single Utopik feeding both the motor and Urika if fitted)
The Klimax Radikal 3 has twin Utopiks, one for the motor and one for the Urika (if fitted). The KR3 also has a much improved and heavier machined case. Note, even just feeding the motor with no Urika fitted, The KR3 sounds much better than the Machined Radikal 2 with Utopik. It’s a 50/50 split between those with a Urika and those with a Superline or Rega Aura etc. -
BTW. The Machined Radikal is now discontinued!
A demo is essential for establishing which way is best for the individual as indicated in this thread already, so do have a demo with your retailer……Hopefully, I’ve managed to avoid breaching forum rules with this post KR, Peter
