Superlumina and Titan 505

Guys,

I know the default is you just try but I’ve got a possibly good deal on 2 x 5M runs of Superlumina? Anybody with real experience of using Superlumina with Titan 505s. NAP is 300DR.

Grateful folks,

Lindsay

I have had 3m SL speaker cables with my 505’s for ~3 years now, upgraded from Chord Epic Signature - absolutely delighted, again not a chalk and cheese difference, but I wouldn’t go back.

Also rolled from OC to NC in that timeframe, even better IMHO.

Just got to watch out for 4mm bananas tarnishing, but easily cleaned.

I too went from OC TO NC. Love it. No regrets.

Thanks guys.

The Superlumina speaker cables take several weeks to burn in nicely. It can sound brighter on first installation than Naca 5. I have full Superlumina loom going into speaker switch.

Big upgrade at cost. Of course if you get used set then less burn in!

Hi Lindsay, I’m using SL speaker cable between a NAP 300 and Kudos 606. The sound is very detailed with a lot of micro dynamic stuff going on. Sound appears to emanate from way outside of the speakers and everything sounds very “live” Bass is very tuneful and extended. If I had any criticism it would be a tendency towards some sibilance on female vocals particularly. I’m not sure if that is down to Firmware issues on the ND555 as I now have only one source. It was more noticeable on 3:10 obviously but it does distract from the experience sometimes on 3:11.

Overall I would describe it in simplistic terms as very very good though despite that caveat.

I’ve tried swapping my old Chord Epic X back in as a comparison . No competition, the SL is in a different league.

I would and do just use the kudos KS1 cable, the speakers themselves are wired internally in it and also designed and tuned using it, so really it should be perfect for the job. Also it’s cheap and thats a nice bonus in this crazy hobby.
Plus quite a few kudos owners have tried it and preferred the KS1, sure you can find many posts on it if you search for them.

Yes, ordinarily I’d request to borrow a pair of each to home demo but it’s not an option this time round. I would be able to sell on though, decision later today.

L

Indeed, as it was cheap, I bought a set of KS-1 and compared them to my SL’s, both before and after cleaning the tarnish off the latter.

KS-1’s are very good, but unsurprisingly bettered by the SL’s, although if I had the KS-1’s first, whether or not I’d have upgraded to SL’s is more debatable, the vfm argument being almost overwhelming.

Not used with Kudos, but adding SL speaker cables with Sonus Faber added some treble “sparkle” like others have said above.

Not in a bad way, no sibilance etc. just more open/detailed treble.

Thanks again, chaps.

SL is clearly a great cable and I cant imagine many not liking it. But it comes at a cost. So if yours is a good price it sounds like a no brainer.

I bought a length 25M of KS-1 at a great price. Its great cable and for what I paid, I can’t imagine it being beaten.

The KS1 is obviously tuned to work very well with kudos speakers.
But obviously some cables can be slightly brighter or duller and so might be better if your system is lacking or over preforming in one area, but you will find the kudos ks1 speaker cable to be neutral in this area when used with the titan range.
I tried quite a few different speaker cables on my system and nothing really stood out as being better, different yes, but certainly nothing i was concerned about or felt i needed to spend more

I use Tellurium Q Silver Diamond between my T505 and my 300DR and that was a big leap from my old Chord Co Epic Reference cable. Very clean, open sound.

Haven’t tried Superlumina but I doubt it would be better.

Would consider Shunyata Sigma-X or Siltech Royal Single Crown in future when I inevitably upgrade from the 300DR.

@LindsayM
I bought SL blind last year. Is between 500dr and 606.
It was a winner first second - and that’s rare for me theses days. All is much more detailed and there is air bit also togetherness. No sibilance or harshness (but I am in 4.8  with nds).
You will love it. Others have updated as well using kudos. IMO - very nice one!
