Supernait 3 - Addition of HiCap DR

I’m hoping the HiCap will allow more of the ND555’s performance to come through. I am already delighted with the system compared to my old 272/XPS/250. I have a three box limit, but as a HiCap’s small, I’ll find a home for it if it releases more potential. Dealer is confident it will and I’ve had good experiences with HiCaps in the past.

The HiCap DR is a nice addition to the SN3. It gives the music more coherence and delicacy. The next natural upgrade after that is a XPS DR for the NDX 2.

I already have the XPS DR, as I used to have a 272/250, so now I’m really tempted! I’m worried it might make the sound more precise and less emotional - sounds like that’s not a problem?

Thanks Stephen. Now even more excited to hear what it does. 6 weeks waiting already. Should be soon?

HicapDR is fantastic on the Supernait2. Reportedly it doesn’t make as much difference on the Supernait3 tho however.

Only what I’ve heard. :+1:t2:

I can hear the difference even with headphones on from an iPad.

Thanks Popeye. I had an SN2/HiCap which I loved, so let’s see. I can definitely say the SN3 sounds great without a HiCap, I’m hoping for the extras that @Stephen_Tate describes.

Seen this and means nothing. Hifi critic also stated it doesn’t have the same effect as on the 2 but does improve things.

Your doing well to keep that level of source on the Supernait, that would eat away at me to up the anti! :joy::+1:t2:

I run a HiCap DR on a SN3 and think it’s wonderful, even with a ND5 XS 2 as source.

Have you heard it on a 2 tho? As I say, I haven’t heard it and only going by what a few others have said and what I have read in Hifi critic.

I would say try one in your system, everyone says different. For me the HiCap DR brings finesse to the SN3. I have tried both with and without.

Yep! But 3 boxes was the deal. I love it.

Haha even with the half box it’s creeping up! :joy:

Stop it Stephen, I’ve been waiting patiently for six weeks and now I’m fast becoming impatient😉

Watch the Youtube video and i think you’ll hear that Jason knows what he’s talking about. I can hear the differences even through a iPad with it’s on board headphone socket.

True. But half a box will fit in a very stylish cabinet without being seen

@Monkey_Jim what have you got this lot sitting on? Especially that ND555?

I used one on a SN1 and SN2 but then I used less capable sources than my current NDX2 as well. I traded in my HiCap DR earlier this year as part of the process of replacing my ND5 XS2.
I would say the SN3 is a better NAIT than the SN2 and overcomes some of the limitations of a SN2 which were partly resolved by adding a HiCap, my view is that it’s less neccessary on the SN3 and I’m not missing it a few months after letting it go.
The main premise behind the Jason Gould “pitch” is that each addition is a step to a better system and the defining system is of course the Statement.
His basic arguement being all of these are just inferior steps leading to a Statement based system.
It’s the same logic behind being able to add a NAP (usually shown as a NAP200) to a Supernait both of these things being minor tweaks (rather than true refinements) to the Supernait and ultimately the basis of a system based on a NAC282 preamp.
In my case I’ve chosen to add the best power supply to the best source I’m prepared to fund giving a 3 box system utilising a SN3 + NDX2 + 555PS.
I may change cabling and even the speakers at some point but my hope is that 3 box combo is a solid sweet spot for my needs.
Configuration options are flexible and there’s no right/wrong approach or end result here, this is merely my own experience and conclusion in that respect.

It’s about balance, this is not balanced. The NDX 2 with a 555PS is wasted on a SN3.
