Yes my response wasn’t aimed as a stab at the Supernaits, just as a now first hand view at how great the NDX2 is on its own without the addition of a power supply.
282/250 sounding good thanks but certainly a bit up and down at the moment. 250 was brand new and the 282 was ex demo but dealer reckons no more than 10 hours on it.
In my situation i’m limited to only three plug sockets. So the great thing that appeals to me with this classic NDX/SN integrated combo is you can have up to four boxes all working in harmony giving a high end performance, in stages, with still only three plug sockets required. Now that is so appealing to me as i have limited my system to only three plug sockets and not boxes!
Six boxes isn’t too many unless you feel it’s too many. I used to have a Naim system with far more than six boxes, but then I wanted something simpler. There are some amazing systems with multiple stacks of Fraim on this forum, that’s great, just not where I want to be now. I can’t speak for HH, but for me it’s just personal preference.
Yes, I am quite happy with the 250, and amazed how much it has made my speakers grow. I certainly wouldn’t want them to grow anymore in my room so hopefully that keeps the 300 at bay. Ha
My dealer was trying to convince me to add a second cabinet and go Supercap / 282 / 250. But to be honest, it’s past my “willingness to pay” point, so it’s either stay with the SN2 or add a muscle shoe-box power amp.
That’s the thing. I don’t want to go the NAC/NAP route. Just want to max out the top NAIT route instead. Even that is way beyond what i could of hoped for. I used to run a slime line active system for fifteen years, with five Naim boxes in the amp stage, i’m with Monkey_Jim here in wanting to stay away from complexity.
Not once in that video did he come across as a salesman trying to get people hooked to a Statement nirvana. Have you actually watched the video all the way through with headphones on? I think he just says it like it is.
Yup I’ve spoken to him personally a few times over the years as well. I always got the impression that they only want to obsess over the Statement end game. I had the same debate on a factory tour in February this year when I asked them to hook up a few different systems in their demo room, at which point they looked at me somewhat awkwardly and spent the remainder of the time trying to deafen us with massive Focal speakers and the Statement driving them, impressive no doubt but not what I have/want/need from them as a manufacturer.
I got some free vinyl and lunch was good having said that.
Well that is a bit surprising as it’s also unrealistic. Still, who would not want to show off their masterpiece when all their in between systems can be demoed at the dealer.
What i liked about that YT video was that the NDX 2 was the main stay throughout all of those system upgrades. What a player!
My dealer has a Statement system funnily enough but I do wish they would spend more time showing complete systems at each level in their range with source, cabling and speakers. This was my point about the demo room conversation at Naim HQ, I appreciate they are immensely proud of what they have achieved with Statement as a product but sometimes it’s just nice to see what makes sense at your own eyeline. They just didn’t seem to understand that from my perspective as a customer in that moment, I had no real desire to be reminded for 45-60 minutes of what I would never reach/achieve/own to enjoy in my own space and time.
I’m very happy with my SN3. Heard some other Naim combos. They did all the Hi-Fi tricks really well but seemed to lack the musicality of the SN3.
Have no desire to go separated. It’s such a fun sounding integrated.
I think this is the real world sensible sweet spot thread, before it gets into the really silly money area, where you have to start paying £5k or more for the next substanial sonic lift.
Ive just got a SN3 , as an upgrade from my Elicit R and I’m very happy with it. I lust after a NDX2/server set up, but with massive job cuts appearing everyday for the forseeable future, i shall have to be very careful instead for several years.
A decent used car and funds for household repairs take priority as well.
So i’ll instead enjoy hearing about what you guys have been up to and dream on.
I think unless you are comfortably well off , the SN3/NDX2 is more than ample, although, who wouldn’t love a XPS DR/Hicap DR to top it off, with Powerlines/SL as the icing on the cake. Thats £20k and surely plenty enough to enjoy a bit of music from time to time.
