I don’t know what the issues are, and in a way it seems churlish to complain bearing in mind the circumstances many businesses are facing at the moment, but I do feel Naim owe my dealer an explanation. They are on the same side after all, and most people will cut a business a bit of slack in the current circumstances. It must be hard for dealers to fly the flag for Naim, when Naim enigmatically don’t feel the need to explain.
Anyway, I don’t know the details, so I probably shouldn’t comment, and all this definitely fits into the category of first-world problems.
Hope it shows up sooner than later, always frustrating waiting for stuff to materialise.
Made me wonder what a second 555PS might being to the mix your end…
your dealer probably hasn’t ordered it yet and is just using your money to help with cash flow for a bit!?
Haha, yes! He did say he’s never been so busy…
Interesting but luckily I have a less than 4 full size boxes limit!
Problem solved in that case!
I’ve got an ex demo 555 queued up for me and reserved if I can find the funds, about 9-10 months old and at a decent price…
At last, the HiCap I ordered in mid May arrived this morning. It’s all connected up and there’s an immediate improvement. I probably need to allow more time to provide a fuller assessment of what adding a HiCap does, but at this stage I’ll say it certainly helps to make the ND555 sound more beautiful. I like how the Supernait 3 sounds bare, adding the HiCap seems to add greater definition and tonal accuracy.
Woohoo!
Made my day hearing that, enjoy!
Congratulations! Another HiCapDR fan here. Probably not the best example but for me it sounds like with the HiCapDR I just moved up a couple of rows at a concert.
Yes, I can certainly get that. I’m still on my first day, so a little reticent to really describe what’s been happening, except that I knew the preamp of the Supernait 3 was my system’s weakest link. Adding the HiCap lets a lot more music flow through, I am surprised at how much more in fact. Anyway, I trust you’re enjoying sitting a little closer to the stage than previously @marcusman?
Yes for sure. I honestly don’t remember what life was like without a HiCapDR. I’ve had it since my xs2. Give it a little time to run-in. You clearly have a very very nice setup. Enjoy and make sure to report back a little later on.
Excellent news and a great result. I found mine added more control and cohesion - a very worthwhile and affordable (by Naim standards) upgrade.
Indeed. By Naim standards, a bargain. It allows me to delve deeper into the mix and hear more of what the Source is delivering. Sounds very right already. The dealer says it takes about a month to really show what it can do. Looking forward to reporting on that. The lowering of the noise floor thing that Naim quote is really obvious and means there’s certainly more to hear. Let’s see how it goes.
The HiCap DR will just keep on improving. It’s a wonderful upgrade for a SN3. Enjoy!
Any updates?
So nearly three weeks in and there’s definitely a difference with the addition of a HiCap. Voices are clearer, there’s less sibilance for example, and the details in the music are more clearly heard. Overall though I’d say it’s an appreciable, but not essential, upgrade. I suppose I should take the HiCap out again and listen to the system without the supply, to appreciate the difference, but the dealer said give it at least a month to show its mettle. So it still has another ten days or so to go.
I’ll report back.
It needs more time. Let the cables/caps bed in, then take it out.
You didn’t like the HiCapdr and moved it on?
It looks like you’ve moved all you Naim gear on …
You have some nice gear though. The Auralic Aries is apossibility for me.h
Yes I did move it all on. I found the SN2/ HCDR just didn’t have the grunt to properly drive my Dynaudio S40’s. I also found the Naim sound to be a bit too colored. I found that no matter how different the recording was it always sounded like Naim. The Naim sound is nice but not very transparent. Put another way no matter what I listened to it sounded Naim-ish. And that made it hard to not forget I was listening to a hifi.
Thanks Stephen, it definitely needs more time, but it will definitely be staying. It’s all present and correct in terms of hifi benefits, but hopefully there’s a bit more charm to come.
