Greetings community - I have a three year old Supernait 3 purchased new three years ago. The issue is I’m hearing a hummm noise through the speakers. It isnt transformer hum and it goes away when muted. Is this a normal occurrence or do I possibly have a bad capasitor? The sound is both channels.
Thanks in advance
Does it still hum with nothing connected?
Has anything changed in the system at the time it recently started? Does it happen if the Supernait 3 has nothing else connected (apart from speakers) nor the non-Naim power supply connected to it?
I don’t know why people use a non Naim PS.
They may be significantly cheaper. They may even perform better, but when there is an issue they become the vector that is easily pointed to. As much as possible, for electronics I try not to stray from Naim if I can help it. Sometimes this not possible.
Thanks for the prompt response. I disconnected the TP power supply from the Supernait and installed the link plug. Powered down the CD player, nDAC and TP power supply and disconnected the DIN and interconnects… still buzzing. I turned off the Subwoofer and it stopped.
Sounds like an earth loop. Does your subwoofer have a signal earth switch on it?
Unfortunately not.
Ive disconnected the non Naim power supplies and the hum remains. Without the Subwoofer it still hums but less loud.
Your sub, which is double insulated, needs earthing as it may be causing a loop.
Take wire from the outer of a spare RCA socket and connect it to earth.
Thanks! Will do
Good news. I changed Power cords and the Supernait is silent, no more buzzing however I have an issue with the nDAC. The Sync light illuminates but for some reason the input light isnt illuminated.
This is a new development. Any ideas on how to correct the issue?
Does the input light illuminate briefly if you swap inputs?
Yes, briefly.
The n-Dac display has been switched off - with the Supernait Narcom remote in “Pre” mode, long press the “disp” key to turn it back on.
Regards
Neil.
Thank you, Neil.
