Supernait 3 upgrade options

Max - agreed, The Supernait 3 is a great amplifier. It’s sounding better as the hours tick by.
I chose Naim because of their upgrade path. I’m sticking around for a while to see how things shake out.

hungryhalibut - I agree that updating my source would be one direction. Plenty of room to move within the Naim product line

maxbertola - I’m not certain where my upgrade path will take me. I so know that the Supernait 3 very good on it’s own. I moved to Naim because I wanted choices in the direction within my system. I’ll either build around it or over it. I may start a 2nd system, who knows. For now I’m burning in the amplifier and cables.

It can appear that way but we all have the same goal - to help spend wisely and get the best sound / value for that money. Those here that give their vast experience of naim equipment and systems, do so because they want others to have what they do, a joyous musical experience that can make every day better.

The Supernait to me is one of those pieces that exists outside of the strong ocean currents known as “upgrade.” A beauty of it is that you buy it, plug it in, and enjoy it. Yes there is this whole Naim ecosphere of separates, power supplies, endless combinations and permutations (2 HiCaps vs. 1 Supercap). But the Supernait can free one from that. So does the Uniti range.

I think that @anon4489532 's approach illustrates this. He’s swam in those strong ocean currents. I get the impression he’s swam with the currents and against them sometimes over the decades. Now he’s swam into a little shoal out of the currents. One-box amplification. From Naim. Amazing.

You only get pressure from a dealer or forum if you call the dealer for advice or you read and ask questions on the forum and take the advice or suggestion……

Be strong and resist the temptation!!!

I will be brave and say this applies to the XS3 too.

Indeed it does.

Would a CD555/555DR be wasted with a SN3/HCDR?. Rest of system is Kudos Titan 606.

I’d be more concerned over the suitability of the SN3 to properly drive the speakers than I would its ability to let the source shine. When I swapped from a 300DR to a Supernait 3 I also swapped to more modest speakers to ensure a good match.

No is the short answer.

Would a better amp allow more of the capability of the source to access the Titans? Definitely!

Thanks for your reply. I posed the question as I am suffering from hearing loss and tinnitus which is making the secondary details in recordings sound blurred and cloudy and detracting from my enjoyment. After listening I also get mre exaggerated ringing in my ears even if I have listened to 1 cd at medium volume.
As a result I was contemplating moving to a component that will provide less detail and hopefully allow me to continue to listen to music for some while longer. It is frustrating that having obtained a very much high end system, now in retirement, my ears are preventing me from enjoying it fully.
I am considering SN3/HCDR in order to achieve this, reduce box count and recoup a modest amount of the initial cost. I believe it is easier to px or sell the amplification than CD555 or speakers?

Hi Svetty, thanks for your reply. See my reply to HH above hence my original question. Cheers

It is a really, really frustrating situation for you. I lost a lot of hearing in my right ear after an accident five years ago, then last year I suffered sudden single sided loss in my left ear. Like you I’m retired and music is a huge part of my life so this was hugely upsetting. I sold my 300 and SL2s, which are on a par with your 606, and bought the Supernait 3 and small speakers. All soundstage has gone of course, but my working ear gets sound from both sides by means of Cros aids. The aids allow me to hear frequencies I’ve not heard for years and do enable me to enjoy the music. It’s not the same but it’s better than nothing. It still upsets me when I think about it too much, like when writing this, but generally I just put it to one side and make the best of it. What else can I do? I, like you, have a really good source - NDX2/555 and with good small speakers this approach does seem to work.

Do make sure you get the best support for your hearing that you can and if you are concerned about anything then get it looked at. There are aids that can help to combat the effect of tinnitus and you may be able to get some help on that. Please ask if you have questions, don’t be alone on this.

Thanks for your reply which is both supportive and encouraging. I have been to see specialists at hospital re tinnitus but they seem to be more concerned with mental wellbeing and I am fine in this respect thanks.
I am having some demos at my dealer tomorrow so will have a better understanding of the different options and my hearing capabilities and how to proceed after this.
Best regards

Looking to permanently replace the temporary loaner cord in put on the Supernait 3 when I discover the 18 awg power cord. I’m seeking suggestions and guidance please, but I’m considering the Wireworld Electra 7 Power Cord. Any thoughts?

Is anyone using the newer Synergistic Research Foundation Blue 12 awg power cord?

Thank you garson. I’m using Wireworld speaker and Interconnects, Eclipse 7. Perhaps swimming in the same pool witb the AC mains may provide consistency.
Peace

Hello.
If you saw my response on post #188, I am using almost exclusively the Synergistic Research Foundation Blue UEF (12 awg) PCs in my system (on the SN2, XPS-DR, HiCap DR and a Paul Hynes LPS for AntiMode Dual Core 2.0 bass management). I cannot recommend highly enough. I’d think it an excellent choice for your SN3.
