Supernait 3 upgrade options

Hello all- As we are discussing the Supernait 3 I have owned mine since August 8th. It was pretty good right out of the box. As a new Naim owner you can imagine my excitement seeing the upgrade path Naim had afforded me. I wanted to upgrade and push the Supernait 3 to it’s sonic limits. I was advised by my dealer to slow down, get some good cables and get a better source. I took his advice. I acquired a good NDAC, Synergistic Research Digital cable, the Super Lumina DIN5-5 and finally the NACA5 speaker cables. Everything was locked in.

The system sounds organized, musical and natural. Tone, Timbre and Texture are excellent through the Naim system. The Supernait 3 and Totem Forest Signatures are an amazing paring. Speed and attack! The weight of the low frequencies amazes my friends. For now I am satisfied with everything that the Supernait 3 system offers. No upgrades in the near future unless cash falls from the sky.

Hello Yeti42 - Sorry for any confusion. Yes you are correct. The retermination is adding soldered biwire jumpers at the speaker ends of the NACA5. Regarding the Cryogenicly Treatment- many, (not all) companies are offering this a part of their standard service. Shunyata Research being just one.

My Super Lumina DIN5-5 cable has been Cryogenicly Treated as well as all of my power cables.

Unfortunately I’m currently running Wireworld Eclipse 7 biwire jumpers with the NACA5 so I’m sure you can understand my perspective and urgency on upgrading my NACA5 cables.

Best to all

I’d exercise a little caution here @Gracie.1 - on my Forest Signatures I keep the wire bridge on the speaker connections that Totem provide and then use the bottom speaker connections with, in my case, the standard Superlumina speaker wire terminals. I do the same with the Totem Hawks and NACA5 cables with the Nova. You can alternate the speaker connections between the top pair, or bottom pair, which will alter the presentation - I’ve always preferred the bottom pairs, the top is brighter.

I know Totem do favour bi-wire, but I’ve never done that with Naim gear. My dealer had the same system: SN2 and Forest Signatures and always maintained using standard Naim connections with the bottom pair of speaker connections.

Thank you Mike_S for your guidance. I’ll keep it in mind. I honestly don’t see any repercussion by properly soldering the correct NACA5 jumper leads to the main cable and jumping to the high frequency speaker post.

I would feel confident that all of the speaker cable specifications would remain within limits.

Hello community - I’m considering changing power cables on my Supernait on 3. Currently I’m using the AV Options TibiaPlus12 Deep-Cryo. It’s sounds pretty good but I would like to see if I can enhance the performance. Are there are any recommendations in the $300. ‐$500. USD range. 2 meters. Any info regarding hi/low capacitance etc would be helpful as well.

I’d get a powerline and be done with it. You can find them second hand for half of retail.

Elmarko- Thanks for the feedback and
recommendation. I’ve been looking for both of Naim’s power cords on the used market. No luck as of yet.

It seems like you see them regularly on the second hand market when you’re not looking for them but as soon as you are looking they are not to be found. lol

The chord you have now is good, I used the same until I found a powerline. One will pop up eventually.

Elmarko - So true! I’m sure one will surface hopefully sooner than later. Thanks for the positive response.

If i am allowed to say so ? the OP has gone down the path i suggested.

I started my Naim adventure at the front end with an NDX2. After about 12 months I swapped my existing amplifier for a Supernait 3.

The sound was excellent. 10 months later I thought it would be fun to audition an XPS DR. It never went back to my dealer.
Encouraged by experience I thought that it was time to put a HCDR into the system and see what happened.
It stayed.
The point of this story is that upgrades smouldering be undertaken after you have become well and truly accustomed to previous upgrades. It is not a race.

BTW I now appreciate that power supplies are really important.

That’s a great system you have there and one that i hold very dearly myself, it’s fantastic.

Just to add: I’m not hankering after an ‘active’ Statement system anytime soon…

I agree with you. I was really surprised by what the XPS DR brought to the NDX 2 and now I wouldn’t be without it. Next up I will try out a Hi-Cap DR on my SuperNait 2 - but not for a while. As you say, it’s not a race and it’s nice to let things settle in for a good long while before upgrading. Thanks for reporting on your experiences.

Power line is only power cord worth using on Naim.

Thank you all for your guidance and input. I’ve just reached the 90 day mark on my S’Nait 3 and it performing beyond expectations. In due time, my upgrade path is an XPS for the NDAC, Hicap DR for the Supernait 3 and finally High Line power cables.
Beyond that, the NDX 2 would be next.

I’m in the same boat, SN3 settling in nicely with roughly 12 hours play a day.

budmoto and others - FWIW I’m leaving my Supernait 3 powerd up 24/7 unless I am making cable connections or introducing components and power cables. I do power down/unplug during bad weather.
When I reconnect the power cables they do appear to need re-settling.

+1 Mr.M

A few weeks ago I replaced my B&W 805 D3 speakers with a pair of 804 D4 speakers. There is still a bit of running time however….WOW!!

NDX2, XPSDR, Supernait 3, HCDR, and now B&W 804 D4. Very happy little Vegetable!! (Australians will completely understand)

Hello community - Need some advice. I’m currently running the NDAC without an outboard power supply.
Looking to enhance performance on the source. I’ve located Gently used XP5 XS. Being an entry-level PS should I hold 0out for an XPS DR?
