Surprises

Surprises - this past weekend saw a gathering of old friends. During wide ranging discussions one friend said to me that he has a friend whose speakers are bigger than mine. It turned out that I was at university with his friend, whose set up was focal & Naim.

I truly believe that the ‘six degrees of separation’ theory is real. We are all socially connected through six or fewer people.

Is his friend a member of the forum?

That’s a great question Richard. I will enquire.

Years ago I was explaining to an American colleague that my wife had barred my olive/sbl system from the living room on the grounds of it being ugly.

He had on his phone a picture of his brother’s system in California which had floor to ceiling electrostatic speakers McIntosh amps (well blue dials at least) and racks and racks of other stuff. It filled an entire, separate, room.

There’s always someone who’s gone to the max. I wish I could have shared that picture with my wife! Two university friends in particular are responsible for triggering my hifi addiction at Exeter in the mid 80’s. Sadly I have lost touch with both.

Sadly, my old university colleague is not a member of this community, and it is not possible to share a picture of his system.

Possibly. I didn’t ask. It might have come off weird…..

Makes me think of this
