That sort of already happens. Naim use StreamUnlimited, as do a bunch of other manufacturers. Albeit, I assume, as a subsystem, integrated and optimised into the broader Naim NP800 streaming software ‘product’

The ironic thing here of course is that Naim discontinued their nDAC just as they launched their new generation streamers. I think from the outset Naim discovered that keeping the transport as close to the DAC as possible was one of their key decisions in bringing us famous that Naim sound signature from their source components. History and recent decisions tell me that this isn’t going to change anytime soon. Naim tend not to follow the herd.

The NP800 card inside the new Naim streamers is unique to Naim, and it not the same one that DCS, Cambridge audio and Arcam are using.

Regarding Naim’s product upgrade policy. We are one of the few manufacturers who support their high tech products well outside of the mandatory warrant period. We don’t have a forced obsolescence policy, but rather the natural decline of what can be done on a give technology platform more dictates where we implement new functionality to ensure our products are competitive.
