I moved my 552 to my basment set up as I listen more down there these days. I put my 282/supercap on my main system, connected it to my ND555 and the system automation doesn’t seem to work for the volume. I’ve checked the settings in the app to verify both classic and RC5 are checked and the correct streamer input. I’m assuming input 1 on the 282 is cd? Any ideas?
Apologies if it’s a silly question, but did you reconnect the thin jack cable between the two devices automation socket? - Perhaps take it out and back in again
I did reconnect that. I can try and take it out and put it back in though.
Possibly not fully engaged in the socket?
I’ve checked all of it, it’s all in on both ends. I don’t get it?
I only have an 82, so forgive me if this isnt the same, but does the 282 remote still move the volume i.e. is the volume motor in the 282 working
There is a remote in the box so I agree that would be a good way to test that nothing is mechanically wrong.
good question, it does work with the remote.
Running out of ideas. Could it be the app. Do you have the app on another device, also try restarting the app, or restarting your phone/tablet
Thanks, i’ll try restarting the app. Haven’t done that yet.
Does the system automation work for the preamp input switching?
Doesn’t seem to be. Mean if you have one input selected and then start to play the ND555 it switichng over to that input automatically? I just tried a different input on the 282 as well and still not working.
You need to select the input that the streamer is connected to in the app. Maybe the cable is faulty.
Well at this point it’s probably either a software bug or the cable. Does your other system use a system automation cable? If it does you could swap the cable and if it still doesn’t work maybe call your dealer for further trouble shooting. Is always annoying when something doesn’t work when it should.
I seem to remember a few issues coming up over the years around 282/252 system automation, some related to the wiring between the remote RCA socket being out of phase and others relating to early 282’s requiring a mod to enable system automation to work.
Worth having a search if you run out of things to try.
Thanks. How do you do a firmware update on a 282? I’m baffled why it doesn’t work. Same exact cable worked when I had my 552 connected to the ND555.
I think it’s a dealer / service centre only update on these devices. If you’ve exhausted all other options then it’s time to speak to your dealer.
Well in the times of dealers fading away, that’s a bummer as I don’t have one anymore. I guess I’d have to reach out directly to Focal/Naim NA. Probably just make do with what I have and use my remote.
The 282 system automation mod is a hardware mod not a firmware update, I believe. No doubt some dealers are competent to do it, but many won’t be.
Have you not used system automation with your 282 before? Mine worked immediately no mods or updates needed.
