I recently upgraded from an NSC-222 to the NSS-333 with NAC-332 and I’m trying to configure the system automation to achieve seamless integration of the NSS-333 with the NAC-332 like I had with the NSC-222 (combined streamer and preamp). I have the NAP 500 for a power amp and thus am not using the NAP 350 monoblocks and do not have the “optical” system automation cable that comes with the NAP 350s. I did manage to figure out how to connect the system automation wirelessly via the Naim app - but it’s not as seamless as I would prefer. In some cases, when I change the volume and press volume up or down more than once I only see the volume number on the NSS-333 screen once and then it doesn’t appear to keep adjusting volume. Not sure if there is latency with the wireless setup.
Perhaps I need to try the setup wired instead of wireless? The manual suggests you can use a standard 3.5mm cable, but it supposedly isn’t as good as the optical cable. Has anyone connected the NSS-333 to the NAC-332 via a wired 3.5mm cable? Does this work better than wireless? Is there anything you lose by doing it this way? Do you need a stereo 3.5mm cable or mono? If the optical connection is better, where do you get the cable without buying the NAP 350s? TIA!
What does your dealer say, or did you buy outside the dealer network?
NSC222 + Nc250 works here, via optical. I imagine if there is an optic between you connect the optic between 333 and 332, then the 332 will control the output to the 500.
I have heard it is better to use an optical cable but haven’t tried it yet, I have my 332-333 connected via Zigbee and the lag with the volume control can be an issue. I know @adeypoos was thinking about experimenting a while ago but I don’t know if he did try out linking with an optical cable.
Update: The lag I was experiencing with wireless automation enabled was only when I was using the pre-amp remote control to change volume. With the streamer remote control it works better, although the volume changes by 2 with a single press of the volume up/down button (instead of changing by just 1). (e.g., volume is 60. Press volume up once. Volume is 62 instead of 61).
I got an optical cable from my dealer to try and attempted to set this up through the app. It appears the optical cable only allows you to change the volume from either remote. It doesn’t have the same level of integration. No volume digital readout on the streamer or what source is selected on the streamer so wireless system automation appears to be the way to go.
