Actually, in Thomas’s position I’d advise not cutting the slack. In fact, don’t cut anything. That’s what Simon Yates did (that was actually the live rope), all for want of a simple prusik loop.
Slight change in direction for this listening room.
A few weeks ago I listed the Allae’s for sale but when the price dropped to a measly £400 I decided to keep them and create a fun simple system based around a UQ2 BT.
Sounds great
I love what Vikingur Olafsson does in his LP Bach Reworks 2.
I love Prusik loops, climbing or elsewhere. So many uses!
Great photos Thomas. What grade is it? ED?
Stu
Main system now back in the old listening room also the room has dedicated mains
Need to tidy cables around the fireplace.
Hi Stu,
Yes, the global grade is around E.D.
We did a combination of two classic routes with a start variation of my own.
It was my friend’s first time on the “Tacul Satellites”, the Grand Capucin is every alpinist’s dream.
I remember Bonattis wonderful descriptions of climbing on those walls from his autobiography.
IIRC he soloed some new routes there with no harness and a hemp rope.
I also remember around 15 years ago not sleeping in a tent on the Cosmique Arête with a friend who was a good rock climber but a novice ice climber when I think a few million tons of rock fell off the Bonatti Pillar.
If members wish to post pictures of mountains and mountain climbing then by all means do so, but please not in the system pics thread. Please start a new thread in the Padded Cell. Thank you.
Some changes since my last pic. The Supernait has gone and been replaced with a 102/HC/180/Napsc. As nice as the Supernait was, I missed the Olive sound. Also picked up a rack for a piffling £10.
Good choice @HiFiman – every room in the house where one spends a decent amount of time deserves good music. But will you resist the temptation to upgrade the UQ2? Not selling the speakers for £400 might become expensive…
Hifiman, I’m in an almost identical place to you (bar the attempt to sell the Allaes). SL2s replaced my Allaes which are now in the dining room on the end of a Qute. (Sorry, don’t have a photo to add.)
Are you sure that’s not a paper cut out bottom right?
Looks great Mike
It’s a cable-holics dream come true
Thanks Dragon, this is a keeper and will remain UQ / Allae’s for a very long time with no temptation to upgrade this setup.
On paper most would disregard the UQ/Allae pairing but the Allae’s are relatively easy to drive and it sounds better than one would expect.
The UQ is a marvelous box this is my third Qute with the previous been UQ Mk1 24/96 and the 24/192 versions (owned at the same time) but regretted selling them.
At some point I may try my SL2s on the end of the Qute but for now the Allae’s have found a new purpose and its a delight to listen too the UQ/Allae setup.
Mike, lovely photos of a lovely system in a lovely room.
Best regards, BF
