System Pics 2020

I think visiting Russians have bought all the models of Salisbury Cathedral. Very popular in Moscow apparently.

Damn, James beat me to it!

Busts of St Julian of the Flat Earth perhaps?

How does the PS-Q3 sound?

Is it an exact fit? Looks good.

Hi Richard, It’s significant and in hindsight should have been done before I upgraded to the 300DR. Is it good value ? Probably not !

Must be made by Linn then.

It has it limitations, always a bit scratchy before the first track but it settles down nicely and, to my ears, it’s a good sounding little unit.

For the sake of restoring some photos into the thread , here is a very poor photo ( taken for insurance purposes ) of my AV , Pioneer Universal Player ( ex demo ) possibly the last Pioneer UDP to be sold in the UK this year ( unless second hand) , a Sky Box and UnitiQute acting as DAC.

This feeds into my main system, but could with efficient speakers but a very modest system in it’s own right.

And here is the main system, using Naim sources only , photo may be dire but as long as you can sit for hours being happy with the sound. For the sake of tidiness I may remove one of the Quadraspire racks and rest the Graham Slee on the NAT03

Again the photo is taken for insurance purposes

so the photo is ‘ scruffy ‘

This system has almost been totally revamped over the last three years , I have downsized the speakers and reduced the box count from five Naim boxes ( in serious need of a service) to a Rega Aethos and Graham Slee phono stage.

The old Rega 3 has been replaced by a Clearaudio. Emotion and a Titan Power Block has been added.

The rat’s nest of cables has been reduced .

Turning to the AV , a UnitiQute acts as DAC . The Sony TV is a 24 inch full HD , it’s seven years old and will be replaced by a 4K monitor as and when it expires.

After a lot of thought ( and excellent advice by Forum members ) I will add a Mac Mini with either a Dragonquest or Graham Slee USB DAC for streaming and computer purposes and again feed that into the UnitiQute and then into the Rega.

It certainly looks very cool! Whilst looking it up I discovered the Sony Flamingo.
A portable record player no less a bit cumbersome for the bus mind you what with a stack of LP’s too.

Keep me out of it please. People are going to post crap and there is bugger all you can do about it. Of course, one person’s crap is another’s treasure.

I know that the forum doesn’t encourage any DIY but no internal modifications occurred. The feet were removed and 1mm from the top and bottom of the facia was filed. I couldn’t live with it as my main source, the Uniti CD player is far better but sitting in a CB case it looks much more at home. I need to try it into a DAC but I haven’t bothered as Naim have promised to have my Uniti back to me by the end of next week, fingers crossed (3 weeks has turned into 10).

Yes, I would really like a flamingo, especially the PS-F9 version ( the F5 plastics age and discolour but the F9 doesn’t, go figure?). Unfortunately, the boat has really sailed on these price wise for good quality unit, they are circa £700-£1000.00 in the UK which really puts them beyond me as a value proposition for a bit of fun.

The PS-Q3/7 can still be had for reasonable money and are great, in my opinion.

If your interested in this sort it tech, another fun unit is the Sony D-88. Tiny CD player with the disc spinning outside of the case…

Does anyone recall the Audio Technica Sound Burger?

Oh yeah, unbelievable how some things get off the design board, the turntable Walkman, the sort of genius that can only be formed down the pub after more than a few.

It probably seemed really logical for the Japanese market where space for a turntable would be zero in most flats. Marketed to users who had similarly fewer LPs than take up the footprint of a turntable also. Something a kid could stash in the few cm of space by the head of his bunk bed and listen to Led Zep under the covers at 3am.
