System Pics 2020

Pete, it’s a Marantz PMD671 Professional PCM recorder. It connects and works a bit like a tape recorder of old, except in this case it records in Digital PCM at 24bit 96kHz. It sounds good, with a good ADC, and even sounds good playing back through its own internal DAC. However, adding the Naim DAC (as connected here) does improve replay performance even further.

Lovely!
What’s your system, PSAN?

What a cool room. Great choice of album at the front of the stack, too, Live Drugs is my pick for album of the year.

Thanks. System is LP12 Akurate into Trichord Dino Mk. 3/Dino+ PSU into NAP200/NAC202/NAPSC through Audiovector SR1AA (using WH Phantom speaker cables).

Yep, Live Drugs is brilliant. Just purchased a week ago, so being spun quite a bit.

I think it looks great, the way the TT rack sits suspended over the unit as it does.

Thanks. Ideally it should be a little higher up but ultimately aesthetics won over practicalities.

Very nice. Reminds me how miss my Revox B77!

Always reminds me of the T Shirts that said “When I die, I hope the wife doesn’t sell my bikes/guitars/hifi for what I told her they cost”.

I also have an unrestored B77 Bk2 15ips in the loft - perhaps one day! I loved seeing the B77 mk1 properly restored including new heads, capstan and wall to wall caps. Even the case went to a company in Germany for refurbishing.
At least the chap who bought it (thanks to my Naim and Linn dealer) is delighted.

Should anyone be interested the company who did the work is called Thear in Bedfordshire. One of the few companies doing this work still working on machines in significant recording studious.

I always say that the magic words “As you wish, darling” resolve every dispute in this household!

But there is one room where they don’t apply - my dedicated listening room

Edit: I saw Richard’s post after writing this. Richard as usual feel free to delete this if you wish.

We need more pictures and it’s Christmas season, so…

Berni lies guard next to the TV and left hand speaker.

And the view that is normally seen on this forum:

No visible changes since last time, except to the forensically sighted who may spot 2 new mains cables and a pair of Morgana DIN to XLR interconnnects for the NAP135s.

Merry Christmas everyone, stay happy, safe & well

I have had a speaker, amp journey this fall. Allaes, Guru’s but the Neat Iota Alphas outplayed them all. Have been going back and forth between Nait 2, Nait 1, Nait 5i mk2 and the Nait xs. The winner is… the Nait 1. Nait 1 is so expressive, detailed and punchy. The XS has more power and the the 5i is the smoothest. The 2 is close and has a sweeter top end, but the Nait 1 is more balanced in my system. Source is LP12 and Linn Klimax ds1.
Merry Christmas :christmas_tree:

The only dedicated room I have is a shepherds shut in the garden with its own log burner and Roberts radio - works a treat! There’s no way I can put an LP12 in that!

Thank you Gary, I agree with you. I have downgraded from 82-hicap-250.2. and I am very pleased, really enjoying the music. I find it so hard to believe that one of Naims first amps can hold its own like this today. I also found the Alphas and Nait match very well in a medium/small room.
