Top 5 greatest of all time
250 back in its box and 500 back in action.
Next is to replace the NBL tweeters and get them back in place. I finally had a reply from Naim saying there were none left, after I’d ordered two from Scanspeak and today the local dealership has got back to me to say that Naim have quoted for a matched pair. There seems to be a bit of contradictory information coming out of Salisbury unless the dealer is trying to pull a fast one.
very nice Richard. I have the Fostex FR-2LE but it’s not as nice as your Marantz. These little guys are tanks, and so much fun to have in the field. I’ve really enjoyed taking mine to live concerts and begging the soundman for a board patch. How do you power yours in the field with no wall outlet?
So yesterday I purchased two stacks of Fraim and should receive them by the end of the month, so now is a pretty good time to show everyone my current setup. I’ve had this setup for 2 years, and it’s about the get a major facelift when I add the 2 Fraim stacks. I’m also getting a P10, and Superline/Supercap DR. Change is coming, so flame away!
Who makes the fancy diffusers on the ceiling?
Vicoustic Flexi Wave Ultra, it’s an hybrid acoustic device which acts as an absorber and diffuser simultaneously.
No flame! Awesome system and room. Looking forward to reading about your journey.
It has a battery pack, but it’s a bit big for field work, and you would also need some microphones. For more portable use I have a Sony PCM-D100, which records up to 24/192 or even DSD.
Quadraspire wallshelf?
I haven’t kept up with your stands decision, Nigel, and although I wasn’t convinced when you first showed these tripods, I now think they look just right. I wonder if they’re growing on you.
Yes, the large wall shelf which is 3 inches deeper than the standard one. The Vertere turntable needs the deeper shelf.
Best, BF
Cool room. Would love those flexi waves on the ceiling but it would be a stretch too far in our lounge I fear!! Managed to shoehorn in a few bass traps and that’s it for now.
The slipper is usually on the other foot hired out on foot tapping duties in another room. However at special request and for this one time only I’ve enticed it back for this photo opportunity with the other speaker.
I see,thank you.I’ve got it too,the normal one,I think.It’s for my Gyrodec.
Ooooh like the look of the MG-1. I’ve been trying a DG-1 the last few days and it is a great piece of kit. Toying with whether I really go all out to get the MG-1. What did you listen to when you first to buy it?
Hi znai,
Long story but in summary, I chose a Roksan Xerxes 20+ with the DS1.5 power supply, Tabriz zi, DV XX-2 cartridge over my LP12 with Hercules power supply, Naim Aro and XX-2 and a Nottingham Analogue Hyperspace with the same cartridge. Auditions like that would be quite hard to organise these days.
A few years later and my friendly Naim/Rega/Roksan/Proac/Kudos dealer suggested I try the MG-1 against the Xerxes.
This is how I ended up with the first retail customer MG-1 in the UK.
Care is needed with choice of cables, as Vertere does like to ratchet up the price with its posh cables.
A close up for you:
The DG-1 is receiving tremendous reviews everywhere. I would be really interested to hear one once the pandemic is behind us.
Best regards, BF
Thanks that’s a great story. With luck I can hear them both together early next year.
That looks amazing!! Love the ceiling and wall acoustic panels. Look suitably arty. Serious room envy…
