Not my system, but thought I’d share this image
My dealer invited me down to listen to these very impressive Vivid Audio Kaya 12’s
I haven’t really played loud so far, but I cant’s really say I missed anything. The superuniti has a thouch of warmth to it, while the atom is a bit more analytical. There is a difference, and I would say the superuniti is the better one, but it is not night and day. And this is stricktly in terms of sound! I do not think the atom is unjust on the s40’s and if you like the estethics (which I would say is 10/10) it is a nice match. However, a nova would obviously be better on the 40s.
I am using it in my bedroom on wifi, and the atom is a lot more stable, and responds quicker in the app. Also, smaller and neater on my night stand.
I was quite dissapointed to find is does not have alarm clock (which is the primarey reason for putting it there) but I worked around it using the alarm clock on my QB on multiroom with the atom.
If you have an iPhone you can add an automation in HomeKit to use the Atom as an alarm via airplay. I discovered this the other day. Quite cool!
Sorry for the delay in replying Scott. I have my speakers on 3/4 " Bamboo cutting boards then the Gaia’s I’ve moved them a bit closer together than the picture and have them toed in so that from the seating position I can see just a sliver of the inside edge of the speakers. Having them on the cutting boards allows easier small adjustments
Great shot as usual! Impressive for an older iPhone…
Nice pic indeed. What is the sticker reading?
Mr. Lonely, top shelf
The Denon AU-310 transformer and the remains of the LP-12 are awaiting the return of the table which is getting its motor replaced as well as a new cartridge. John, the NAIM dealer who is also a Linn specialist, is the same guy who had sold me the machine in 1979. I keep telling John that I am his most faithful customer and the worst, bothering to change systems only every 20 years or so.
Sorry for the so so quality
Edit: BTW in case you’re wondering the 10 year old DAC is a bit of a Frankenstein in that tube output has been temporarily gutted and regulators, caps, rectifier bridge, diodes and opamps have all been upgraded.
Streamer is an RPi based DigiOne Signature with linear PSU
Thanks Marcus. Yeah, it’s not bad for a phone. The small sensors don’t do a bad job at all so long as the lights not too contrasty as they don’t have the dynamic range of proper camera sensor (eg the burnout highlights on the tonearm) but so long as you know it’s limitations and work within them, they can be a great tool and you always have them with you.
I just liked the way the clear album looked on the black matt that made the tones of it look similar to the tonearm.
Cheers, Rack.
The new Vivid’s dont seem to get anywhere near as much press as did their older models. How did the newer versions sound, did you hear the new 45’s?
One of the best sounding systems I ever heard featured the Giya G1’s with big Luxman mono blocs.
@Daveyf if I understood correctly, I believe Vivid have been in the process of relocating their production from South Africa to the UK - this maybe a reason why they’ve been flying below the radar of recent.
In my novice opinion the ‘12’s’ were staggeringly good.
Compared to my current B&W’s 705’s, half the price of the 12’s, the Vivid’s were, in one word “transparent”…amazing dynamic
I didn’t get a chance to listen to any other models, but plan to soon.
They’ve definitely spiked my interest and will be considered when upgrading in the near future.
The 45’s might challenge my budget, so it could be the 25’s - which, for me, are the winners in design/aesthetic from Vivid range
Nice tower, but you need to site the NAPSC at a cable’s length away…
Or not, I could never hear any benefit from that and it does benefit from being on the Fraim, and from a Powerline. Keeping the cable off the shelf is good too so moving it to the back does no harm.
Interesting non-Fraim Fraim!
Nice Sabrina X. I just got mine in Quartz colour, jealous on your special colour
Moved house recently, stuff takes time to unpack and sort after almost 14 years at the last place!
Needs some tweaking but it all still works at least
Office tinker zone, got the tape deck cleaned up when we moved and I discovered it buried in a “keep” box
Selekt DSM on temp nearfield stereo duty, back in its 5.1 role once I get a new projector.
Arcam AVR giving the LG OLED some stereo oompf for streaming and work related “testing”
Got the Mac Mini on Roon server duty (headless) and for fun have an iFi iDSD USB DAC on that as it decodes MQA and sounds nice anyway.
Switch is one from work, as we make them it’s free and “sounds” ok
Yes I made it myself & bought the uprights Clive
