System Pics 2021

gxc-730d

I kick myself for throwing out an Akai GXC-730D tape deck. I wasn’t aware of just what an amazing machine it was. I think it ended up in a skip despite being mint condition. Because I was stupid, 14, and it was an old silver bit of hifi from before CD age. nearly 30 years later I could kick myself. They go for $1000 second hand now. And I now realise it looks bloody cool.

Wow. Yes, I do love this generation of Akai kit. I still have a lovely GXC-710D that looks almost as good as new.

I have only the C-T3 from this system partnering my UQ2.
But I have a full Pioneer stack from 1980 - mostly the so called “blue” series.

That’s exactly the point…

So, who’s going to start the thread asking which colour sounds best?

My blue is the best, of course :sunglasses:

Hi, do you know what was/is the general consensus or accepted hierarchy as to which speaker is better between the NBL and the SL2?

Upside down plug sockets are the way to go :joy:

Ps the ones on the right and behind the fraim are straight to the dis board! Made a big difference!

I don’t know what the general consensus is and I wouldn’t trust it on speakers anyway. When they were sold new NBLs were between SL2s and DBLs in price so if you want to place them in a hierarchy thats as good a way as any.
DBLs I’d like to try but probably never will. They’re all getting on a bit now.

I know of a few cases where NBLs were replaced by Kudos 808s, though I also know of one chap who owned two pairs, one for spares, and he retired them in favour of Audionote Es.

Do you get enough bass out of those petite Neats.?

Hardly Petites

Good solid base - isobaric loading so heaps

They really suit the space. The new okestra’s you are interested also have isobaric loading , by the pics you have posted your room is probably larger so potentially better suited. Don’t discount the XL6’s (a pair sitting somewhere ) .

Cheers

These ones really do it for me

And it’s about time you fixed the hole in your wall.:grin:

I missed a word Pete - these are the neat ultimatum XLS’s out of their top range, from what I know the orkestra’s are based on the ultimatum range but just down a peg, so i can bet they will be excellent

Ha ha very funny

Are the XL6’s a forum members.

Yep

Heard them a while ago with a 500 setup at Harry’s think the whole system belonged to the same member :smirk:, they sounded pretty damn good.
