Lovely workspace.
Did she noticed the new paintings?
Mine took 2 weeks to notice the P10. She thought first i had only changed the dust cover.
Turps vapours no longer the reason for forgetting how long working in the studio ?
Happy to know you are enjoying the upgrades Pete.
Oh, I will mentionā¦ Iām currently too busy today to edit this picture
You just remind Mrs. Pete how lucky she is to be allowed in your roomā¦provided you have a comfortable couch, that is.
Thatās looking sharp Pete, a great result - well done. Iām just behind you - a few weeks now
And the result is?
Looking forward to seeing a photo of your 250
Hi @DelR, ok letās start with what is technically wrong with this.
The speakers are Guru QM10ās but a pair of mk1 and a pair of mk2s. There were quite a lot of revisions between the two speakers with both drivers on the mk2ās being different from their predecessors. Inevitably there was also some revisions to the crossover network because of this.
Next, mainly out of laziness for what was a bit of fun the speaker cable to one set is Kudos Ks1 and the other is what it replaced Townshend Isolda. There are differences in the style of the presentation of those cables.
So this shouldnāt work, butā¦
The mk1 and mk2ās share a common style of presentation despite the differences, with the mk1 being a bit more forward than itās successor, which is arguably more transparent (for me the mk1 has a bit of special magic all to its own).
I have the mk1s (sorry, should have said at the outset, this is the lower pair) running off the densen b300 power amp and the mk2ās on top off the Densen b100 integrated. These amps were designed to be biamped and work together with the gain set the same.
So with all that it is dead easy to have both amps on and drive both speakers at the same time and crucially be able to turn one or other off (the B100 integrated will continue to operate as a passive pre amp with no power, so signals all continue just power amp switches out) to instantly compare 2 v 4.
The results are literally stunning, if the speakers were both identical and the cable the same (I could run it all from two sets of Townshend if I pull the ks1 but I love the liquidity that the kudos brings to the party and it would mean pulling that cable from my main system to match) then I would have stumbled across a massive upgrade.
Even within the limitations of what was just a bit of fun and curiosity you instantly get images that expand in height and projection, everything becomes more effortless at the same volume.
Technically I suppose this shouldnāt be a surprise, as Iām literally getting twice the air being moved for the same power. Also, with the upside down config to keep the tweeters as close to each other the sound is very cohesive, you do not hear two sets of speakers.
I have reverted to a single pair (mk1s), probably (mainly) out of audiophile catholic guilt, because this is stupid isnāt it, we are serious about our music and shouldnāt be messing about like an adolescent (I know I did) multiple pairs of speakers, damn they shouldnāt even be in the cabin passive on the floor because thatās bad as well.
But, this Friday, weather permitting, having a bit of a bash with some friends round and the second pair will be back in their upside down world and the tunes will be pumping out, and Iāll have a stupid grin on my face as I say āit shouldnāt work, but why does it sound soooo good?ā.
Iāll also wager that K&D, Depeche Mode, Faithless and the Cure will get usurped by ABBA as my wife and the ladies take over the man cave with the quad of Gurus belting out a life size version of the Swedish disco divas.
Might have to get a glitter ball thinking about it.
Thanks for that, there definitely seems to be something in this configuration. Anyone tried it with Kans?
I am sure you will be boogying in the corner to ABBA come Friday .
@DelR , they look pretty formidable as well, little bit of bluetak connects them perfectly and the Target R2 stand is an immovable object anyway.
Visually sort of reminds me of what the old Ae2 used to (the bigger less popular version of the Ae1, think I have the model number right), always hankered after either one of those speakers.
Every chance on the ABBA bit.
Now scanning Amazon for flags and glitter ball, going full on festival theme now.
Great. I am wondering if two pairs of Q10s sound better than one pair QM60s.
While I am asking this question to myself, I am simply enjoying the sound of ājustā one pair Q10s and considering to buy the beautiful Guru oak standpoints.
Great so see a real Guru fan here.
Have fun with the Swedish quartet!
@colormind great to hear, Guruās very special in my mind and Iād love to have heard the Q60ās, my dealer, James of TomTom had a pair (think he still does) and I can only imagine what they do given what the Q10s achieve.
Iāve only just replaced them in the main system with the Kef Ls50 metas. The Gurus still more than hold their own, just have differing qualities.
I was intrigued to see that Guru offer an update (not gonna call it an upgrade given my admiration for what the mk1 does) service to bring the speakers up to latest (Mk3/4 I would say) standards.
Along with the Densen beat b100 amp Iād rank the gurus as the best value components Iāve ever bought. With the judgement being that they have always done something special that others canāt match even if spending way more.
Think Thomas (owner / founder of Densen) nailed it with their tagging āLifeās too short for boring HiFi!ā), Guru fit right in this camp as well in my opinion.
PhoenixNet replaced the Etheregen /MCRU
Rega P10 / Lyra Kleos replaced the Rp10/ Delos
Entreq power cord on the Phoenix.
3 mn Tad audio spacer in the P10 arm.
Received my P10 10 days ago. Have not used my Nds since. The sound of the P10/ Kleos / ear 912 is too addictive.
The Phoenix looks good in your systemš
Happy days then!
Hi FRā¦I am J.Lewisā¦unless the . translates into French as t ā¦I doubt this is the case.
Best wishes to all our friends in Europe,

That Ear 912 What have you compared it against?
