System Pics 2021

No, the 250 was an unexpected purchase so I’m sticking here for a goodly while. As I said somewhere, this setup has been my goal for some good few years, so I’m going to spend sometime enjoying it.

Absolutely right, wishing you many many hours of listening pleasure, well done on reaching this level Neil, what an awesome place to be. ATB

Just stick with 2 HCDRs! I’ve yet to hear anyone say their SCDR is not as good as 2 HCDRs on this forum. But I do know two guys locally who tell me going from 2 olive HCs to a SC on their 82s was no improvement. ( I bought one of these guys olive HC for one of my 72s) .
It may be different for a 282.

Ah, I’ve discovered you shouldn’t mix the types of HC. Which now makes sense to me. So I’m down to one now. Still sounds fabulous, even though they’ve been cold for a while. Looking forward to the weekend, when they’ve got some warmth into them.

It will be worth it though! But enjoy your new gear in the meantime!

And there are a lot ( ok, a few!) That say there is little difference from one HCDR to two. Enjoy the DR.

I have run my 82 with 1 x HC, 2 x HC and 1 x SC (all Olive, naturally)

1 x HC to 2 x HC made a significant difference
2 x HC to 1 x SC may have made a small difference……but it’s one less box. :grin:

The Spendor 3/1’s are just fantastic and have exceeded my expectations. Running now for just over a week with about 120 hours, they’re in good shape. They somehow manage to be warm and easy to listen to with zero fatigue but also extremely detailed and accurate with lots of info and textures in the bass regions. I can’t believe I sustained the A7’s for 3 years whilst having my hearing regularly fried with the sizzling upper mids, although a grand cheaper and considerably smaller these are in a different league in my room, ok they don’t go as low as the 7 but the bass is superior imo and far more detailed with an in room response of 40hz which feels about right. What I have learned though is that stands are extremely important with these thin wall designs and are effectively an integral part of the speaker, I’m still using temporary boggo flat plate stands but after a few days I added 2 thick rubber tap washers per corner and the difference was remarkable - even more detail and accuracy and less congestion and completely eliminated any bass bloom. I’m now of the opinion it’s mandatory to invest in really good open frame stands which unfortunately are very pricey but will definitely yield even better results, I think the HiFi Racks Fortis might be the one. Highly recommended synergy with a bare NDX2 and SN3. The 3/1 seems to sit below the radar and there’s only 1 review online from Ed Selley which is very positive, I’ve had Special 40’s here before and for a speaker which is just a little larger than the 40 and similarly priced there is absolutely no comparison.

I don’t see why you should not run your 2 HiCAps. No super-ideal, but it will work.

With 2 HC’s, one drives left, and one right. Simples…

Or… get your NonDR HC sent off to be DR’ed…?

That’s weird. When I had a NAC82, the change from two HiCaps to a SuperCap was one of the most significant upgrades I’ve ever experienced. Different ears, different rooms etc.

Same with me. Although I went from Flatcap to Supercap. It was so impressive that my girlfriend at the time commented on how amazing it sounded.

Nice detailed review. How far from rear wall out of curiosity.

Just over 400mm, I haven’t played around much with placement until I get the proper stands.

Nice!

I’m a big fan of 2-way standmounts. Given the importance of the stands, I would definitely go for the dedicated Spendor stands.

I have to agree with you there @Clive. Going from 2HC to Supercap on my 82 was indeed a significant step. It baffles me how some people get a negative effect, when others get a wow! moment. I guess it must be to do with the service status of the different pieces.

@jodl - Wow. Looks great.

I am sorry but I do not recognise the Arm fitted, though…?

@IanRobertM
Thank you!
It’s a “L‘Art du Son Transcription Reference Tonarm” - which is a modified Origin Live Enterprise. The arm is built to Martina Schöner`s specifications to match the Lyra Atlas cart perfectly.
