System Pics 2022

That’s better that you have done that. Be good to move your speakers onto stands so you can see the TV properly!

Is that the finished look of your hifi rack? You may be better getting a separate hifi rack for your Naim equipment!

Even if they did try the Gaias (for research reasons) and appreciated their benefits, they might not share their insights for commercial reasons: “If you like our stands, you really need 2 sets of Gaias to make your speakers sing”…

That’s not really the line you are searching for to sell your product, is it…

Absolutely!

Lovely.

I am intrigued by this combination. We have quite a few Tannoy speakers in the family, including 2
pairs of the Mercury M2 (the larger brother of the M1) and they always sound better when driven by amplification in at least a price class above.

When my dad bought the first pair (27 years ago!) we demoed them with a Marantz PM57 - sounded OK but a bit flat. We then swapped the Marantz for an Arcam Alpha 7 amplifier and the improvement was enormous - sounded like completely different speakers. For what it’s worth, What HiFi said similar in their original reviews of the M2s - they kept on improving with every amp upgrade thrown at them - ultimately finishing with their Audiolab monoblocs.

I’m not pretending they are the best speaker ever (my dad’s system does indeed sound clearer/less boxy now with Revolution DC6 Signatures driven by an Arcam Alpha 7r) but for the £140 a pair they cost back in the 90s they were something of a bargain. I’m also sure that, with a bit of bracing and subtle tweaking, their clarity would improve and the small amount of ‘boxiness’ would be reduced. IIRC the M1, having the smaller cabinet, suffers less from the latter.

That looks great. Love it.

And why not? I’m overwhelmed!

A picture after my 52 has recently returned from a trip across the Pennines to Darran for a Service.

Nothing new recently, though the system did survive an encounter with a Vitus ri101mk2. A very fine amplifier indeed, with an extremely attractive form factor by contrast, but ultimately not for me.

I was not expecting the M1’s to sound so good. I’ve had them for 15 years, used in various office and garage systems with cheap receivers. I was surprised by their performance with the NDX+SN2. Guess it proves the source first mantra.

Forgot what my point was, thinking out loud perhaps. I’d be happy with all/any of that kit.

Thanks Mr.M, I wasn’t too sure whether it was search for confirmation or an oblique criticism. Glad you like it!

Praise indeed, always been a fan of both brands, although yet to own any myself. There’s something very Dieter Rams about the Nagra kit that appeals to the eyes and of course ears!

How big is your room, just out of curiosity?

Thank you!

4.5m long x 4m wide, it’s only small.
