System Pics 2022

I am no longer a Naim owner, but still love the brand, and visit this forum daily.
My Nagra integrated decided to blow up a couple of months ago for no apparent reason. I sent it to a local tech, and both output channels were blown. He recommended sending it back to Nagra in case there are deeper issues, and I wanted the thing gone over by the manufacturer.
Anyway, while dropping it off at the dealer I bought it from, to be shipped to Switzerland, I had a chance to listen to the Nagra Classic Pre, with Nagra Classic amps, running as monoblocks. They were driving the little brother of my Kharma DB7’s…the S7.
Glorious sound, and there is a chance I might trade in the damaged Integrated on one of the Classic amps. My Lumin P1 can be used as a Preamp, directly driving an amp.

2022 changes: Solstice turntable, which I am delighted with. I also replaced a nearly 14 year old Superline with a factory fresh unit and updated Airplugs for loading the Equinox cartridge. The ProAc K6 Signature remains the best speaker I’ve heard and the perfect match for my 500 system.

How was the difference?

New Superline sounds a bit more detailed, tighter bass. Not as dramatic as upgrading to the Airplugs vs the supplied DINs. If you own a Superline make the investment as the difference is not subtle.

It’s my duty to like every pic with Nagra gear. Definitely aspirational gear.

I agree, the Classic gear is somewhat affordable, but when you get into the HD stuff, out of my price range.
They are willing to give me $12 K on my integrated, if I trade it in on the classic integrated, or Classic amp.
This is what I might end up doing, get one amp, see how that goes, then I could add another one when I have the funds.

I’ve just finished up a tidy up of my games room set up in our garage. I had a Untit2 and old AR 22BX speakers and some old gear I wasn’t using and sold the lot after I found a great used Star. I then added the Totem Rainmakers that were on clearance. I’ve just today swapped out my old speaker stands with a DIY set I found on-line, which I assembled and filled with sand today. I’m quite pleased with the result and it can also run in multi room with the main system in the next room.

Sadly, my pristine and uncluttered surfaces have been polluted by “Bric-a-Brac”, courtesy of Mrs Q :man_shrugging:t4:
…but now all installed and running beautifully in the Media Room:slightly_smiling_face:

Marillion - Market square heroes, Eloy - Metromania, Time to turn, Performance & Planets. All of which are excellent. Are they picture discs or just pictures?

Project Perspective? I went for the 2Xperience acrylic with a S2 speed controller. Slightly easier to change speed than yours :joy:

Yeah, fortunately I only have 2 45RPM albums and I don’t listen to singles. I actually don’t remember the last time I switched motors. Probably the last time I played Bonnie Raitt - Dig in Deep, as this is my most played 45 RPM album.
It’s a lot easier on my LP12, which has only been used in 45RPM once, to play that same record🙂

Those are the Mk1 Kan stands, I believe…? The Mk2’s had 4 vertical uprights (bit like a small version of the Sara stands). That’s what I had…

PS. Nice to see this thread back from the Naughty Corner… :slightly_smiling_face:

A service is the usual way to refresh a Naim amp and they usually slip in any improvements they’ve made over its lifetime while they’re at it. I think my superline cost ~£400 to service, what made you go for replacing with a more recent but the same model instead?

Boooh!

Superline service is $2000 here in the USA. With the sale of my used Superline upgrading to new was a wash, give or take a few hundred bucks.
