So no fund from my side
If you want to go active with 3 x NAP500 the investment is big, but if you go active with NAP250 (that’s my system) or with NAP300 the additioonal money needed is not that much.
One more 500 going active might be achievable purple .
It’s always nice after spending time elsewhere, to get home, power the system back up and listen to some tunes.
Looks very good.
Just out of curiosity, the speakers seem very close to each other?
Thank you. I think they are about 2m apart which works well for me sitting 3m or so from them.
Up way too early on a Saturday. Realised the Mu-so is coming up for about 8 years old. Just playing on random from NAS and today it’s a great mix……got me going this morning.
Good afternoon from France. Here are two photographs of my system. It is modest by most Naim Community standards and some of it is quite elderly, but, nevertheless, it gives me much pleasure. The system comprises Linn Ikemi, Chord 2Qute, NAC 272, NAP 250, Linn Isobariks, Stax SM-313 headphone amp and 4070 headphones. The stand is an Atacama Evoque Eco. Of more entertainment value, perhaps, is the list of my equipment in 1987, prepared for home insurance purposes by Michael McClean of Lyric HiFi, in Belfast (still going strong!). Brian D.
Good afternoon Brian, lovely looking system, nice to see such a well loved CB 250, and gorgeous Briks.
I have only heard them once but basically just plonked and played. Would like to hear them in a well setup system one day.
Are they easy to come by second hand and are they still serviceable?
Nice setup by the way
Cheers Dan
I must admit I spent a bit of time looking at your system as I was building mine and returned to your tribulations on deciding on source(s) when I was trying to rationalise CD versus streaming
in spite of the years between the various designs I think they sit pretty well together visually as well as sonically
Enjoy!
Streaming isn’t for everyone. App problems, network issues can be stressful. With your CDX2.2 you won’t have any of those issues.
Listening to my LP12 today. Bit of Def Leppard at moment.
Have you considered an XPS2, 555PS or DR versions at all?
Had a few problems with LP12 last few days the wires to the cartridge have worked their way loose and having to use tweezers to reinsert them tighter to cartridge! Seems okay now. There’s always something to tinker with!
Lovely system. I gave up on CD’s (for streaming) about 4 years ago but before that I used a Linn Ikemi for 13 years which I bought from new. It is just the most wonderful CD player
Lovely room and system. Great to see some Isobariks too
Mtuttleb, Thanks for your comments. The Isobariks are terrific, but it’s a very long time since I listened seriously to anything else and tellingly, I’ve never really felt the need. It could vey well be that modern driver materials and overall construction methods could give as good a sound - possibly cheaper too! The Isobariks have upwards facing midrange and tweeter units on top, as well as on the front, so I suspect that this gives a particular characteristic to the sound. I have seen them for sale on ebay and elsewhere, both cheaply and at eye-watering prices, when restored. I’m pretty certain that Linn doesn’t support them any more, but there are one or two enthusiastic professionals in England who can restore, repair, or provide drivers, grills, etc. for them. In any event, I love 'em! Brian D.
Crispyduck, Thanks for the message. Quite some time ago, I sold my LP12 and all of my albums and went completely to CDs - overall I’m glad that I did, but that’s another conversation! More recently, I’ve also been streaming through Spotify, waiting for their much-delayed hifi stream and have really enjoyed the listening experience and the new or undiscovered music offered. As for the Ikemi, much as I enjoy the hifi “hobby”, I’ve never really thought about changing it, so that tells its own stroy. Brian D.
james_n, Thanks for your comments. As I mentioned in another post today, I’ve never seriously thought of replacing the Isobariks. I’m in deepest rural Dordogne in a very old stone village house. The sound is excellent, as the ceiling is high-ish, with beams and there isn’t a flat wall in sight! Brian D.
Moving the TV to the wall with it’s own sound system enabled me to finally have a space for a small analogue setup in the living room of our condo. Gear consists of JMR Bliss Silver speakers, modified Rega RP6/Ortofon 2m Bronze, and my trusty CB Naim Nait 2 in the cupboard below.
Eoink, Thanks for the message and your kind comments. I had the 250 brought up to date by Naim a couple of years ago, so I’m happy with it. I’ve never really thought seriously of replacing the Isobariks although modern materials and construction techniques will certainly give as good a sound. They work well in my room and I’m very satisfied with them. Brian D.
